The Colorado Miniature Percheron Project, or CMPP, is a publicly funded conservation project trying to increase the number of Colorado Miniature Percherons in the world. They were first bred in 1976 by a ranch. This ranch took several different horses including the Percheron, the Shetland Pony, Falabella, as well as the Fjord.
Colorado Miniature Percherons are small, usually do not exceed 36” and are usually no shorter than 28”, but have the gentleness and hardiness of the Percheron. More recently they have also been bred with miniature appaloosa horses to create more genetic diversity as well as more coat colors and patterns.
Miniature Percheons are mostly seen used for obstacle shows but can also be used for in-hand jumping, and sometimes harness classes.
