Petz 5 Glitch?

For old times sake, I got Petz 5 out and put it into my (new windows 8) laptop. It looks all right for the most part, except for the pets.

the layers of the pet are seperate. everything else is fine.

That is what I see no matter what. I uninstalled it and tried it again, same results. I changed the compatibility (tried vista, xp, and 98), screen size, reduced color, and ran it as an administrator and still same results. Does anyone know how to fix this? I'm so interested in starting up this game again x)
