It's possible for there to be very slight variations in rarity among the staff pets just due to random chance. :3 They're all set to have the exact same probability of showing up, but that doesn't mean there will be exactly equal numbers of each one at the end. For example, you might have this setup for adoption rates on a litter:

Dog A = 25%
Dog B = 25%
Dog C = 25%
Dog D = 25%

That means every adopted dog in that litter has a 1 in 4 chance of being any one outcome, but you could still draw the same dog four times over because the chance of getting that dog doesn't change no matter how many have already been adopted. As a result, the final percentages of dogs actually adopted site-wide might look more like this:

Dog A = 22%
Dog B = 17%
Dog C = 32%
Dog D = 29%

If the numbers of each outcome were close to the rarity division line, Dog B could go rare a little bit before Dog C, even though they were supposed to be the same rarity. However, in the staff litters the minor variations in rarity from this effect have far less impact on the dogs' values than demand does, so the rarity variations can generally be ignored. Even if it happens that one staff dog's label says 'Rare' while its littermate's says 'Uncommon', they are still so close in true rarity that it makes no real difference to their overall value. :3

And that could be seen from the 09 staff litter C: Some dogs went rare before the others did, but they all went rare within 3-4 months after each other i believe.


My personal favorite still has to be Spotty's staff dog.

I feel awful for saying this as I don't want to offend anyone........
but ...
All of the staff pets should be treated with same respect as they are all so very individual.
Loads of CS members just look at them as JUST commodities
Something they can buy and sell
Can anyone else just see the beauty and the work (and effort) that every Artist has put into these wonderful pets?
I think we need to say thanks more to the artists, mods and owners of the site - rather than criticise.

I agree with this.
While I certainly like some of the pets more than others, I really appreciate that each pet is individual to their artist, and even when I don't like the design itself, I still love how each and every pet tells the story of the time and effort, not to mention personal care the artist put into it.
This is of course the case with all pets, but especially so on staff pets.

However, I don't think trading/hoarding/whatever them is showing any disrespect to any artists, a major part of the site is still just that, trading and collecting pets, and that's what the artists work to bring us, collectables, not museum pieces we can look at but not touch.

I'm so excited that the winged fox turned rare! I have two of them that is traded for what they would be worth at like uncommon or something...I don't know that I even want to trade them away anymore. XD

I think the chickens turn uncommon each month because less people adopt them to begin with xD

Does anyone know why Ricorn's staff dog turned uncommon?

All the other staff dogs are probably very close to uncommon and will turn in next update and it's just a coincidence that this one particular staff dog is uncommon already. =)

checked rarity and the sept bw with fancy wings went rare, and the silver rat also went rare
