Just so you know, I'm not completely helpless. I can count up to 100 and I know a few (albeit very few) words and phrases. What I'm hoping to learn is: (1) how to count past 100 (as far as you are willing to teach me), (2) some verbs (a little info about verb conjugation might be nice too, as I have no idea how to conjugate Japanese verbs), (3)some "vocab" words ("vocab" meaning any words I don't already know that you think might be useful) and (4) maybe a bit about sentence structure (but only if you feel like it).

i know... a little.... "Konichiwa! Watashi no tomadotchi ni natte kudasi!" means, "Hello! Please be my friend!" The words mix, so I'll show you where what words are...
Konichiwa! Hello, or hi. pronounced kow-nee-chee-wah Watashi no please. pronounced wah-tah-shee-no tomadotchi friend. pronounced tah-mah-dot-chee ni natte my. pronouced nee-nah-tey kudasi! be. pronounced koo-duh-sigh
see how they mix? well, saghanara, and have a good day!
I can help you a little! The last time I really had to use Japanese was when I was four, so forgive me if I'm a little rusty. :3
Basic word structure in Japanese is actually quite easy, it's "Subject-object-verb"; So, basically, put the verb at the end. Verb end. Got it? "Object-subject-verb" works, too.
Now- usually that would make no since; how could you tell who did what? But in Japanese, you use particles; little tags that go after each noun phrase.
For example: "ga" and "o" are basically impossible to translate into English; but "ga" marks the action performer, and "o" marks the action receiver. For example: "Watashi ga Yukito o sasotta" "Yukito o watashi ga sasotta" Both sentences mean "I invited Yukito". It's not that hard once you get into it. :3 There are ton of particles, and I have a habit of forgetting them until I actually need to use them. XD; Sorry! However, two of the most common ones I can think of are:
No: 's, "Watashi no tomodachi" (My friend) or "Haruhi no hon" (Haruhi's book)
Wa: It's hard to explain this one, but it's the... topic of the sentence? Like when introducing yourself, you'd say "Watashi wa -insert name here- des" (I am ___) Or, let's say you where talking about yesterday, you'd start with the word for yesterday, (Kino) and add the particle "wa" after. "Kino wa watashi ga sushi o tabeta" (Yesterday I ate sushi) There should be a full particle table somewhere on the net... if you can't find one, I'll try to make one for you, if you want. <3
-Firestar- wrote:Are you looking for just conversational or are you wanting to learn writing too? I find it difficult to type in romaji, so that's why I ask ^^;
I was just thinking about conversation although trying to learn some of the writing system might be helpful too.
