Ok, it's been awhile since I replied, but here you go.
No, he is not being destroyed. He is being injected with a concoction of chemicals, serums, and genetic materials. Animal euthanasia is a controversial topic for most people, and I'd like to say that this would be a totally inappropriate way to do it. Trust me, there are humane and peaceful ways to do it, even with a creature as small as a rat.
Yes, his story will continue, keep an eye on my gallery, I will draw the results over the next few months. It's all very exciting, and I have this huge story planned out.
He does survive, but after a dramatic change.
A feature wouldn't be appropriate for this drawing, it's to dark and controversial. The point of this drawing story is not to make a point, but to illustrate the most impacting part if Lumiere's story. Remember, the lab he grew up in is totally unrealistic. Pretty much all fiction surrounding animal testing is highly unrealistic. So don't form opinions based on stories, do research.
And yes, those back legs. Ohmygreenglowinggosh those were hard. You have no idea how many times I redrew those back feet. Luckily, I was able to reference photos and my rat in my lap (Sleeping upside down). Because he's twisting like that, I couldn't just draw the feet from the side - as would be so much easier.
No, I cannot draw humans. As you can see from the ref I used, I practically copied them. What helped most was when I drew the outline of what the hand looked like behind the rat, then I was able to curl the fingers better. I spent almost as much time on the hands as I did on the Lumiere's back feet. But I knew that if I was going to do well on the rat anatomy, I'd better try my best on the hands too.
This WAS originally going to be an editable... But I really don't know.
