I am aware there is a "similar suggestion" but I'm focusing specifically on completely randomizing the pets themselves.

like the lost and found is. You have to enter the millisecond it opens to get anything "decent" and everything is gone for 98% of people that go in

My solution is to randomize it entirely like the lost and found is.

That way things of all rarity and year can show up at any given time during the opening. Does it increase the chance of getting anything good? Probably not but at least you're not guaranteed to get nothing good if you're .0000000001 of a second late.


tl;dr LIKE THE LOST AND FOUND IS.

Nope I'm suggesting to randomize the pound itself not the time it's open

Edit: also no I'm not suggesting giving out random pets by clicking on a box

    from the very end of the first post, almost missed it myself:
1) the 15 pound pets on a screen should NOT be sorted by date. People can use scripts to snipe the first pet. The 15 pets should appear in random order, NOT by date.
2) both randomize the pets and don't even provide dates.

    but honestly the other one seems more about the time than the pets so idk

That's why I made this suggestion, because I specifically want to focus on the randomizing.

{agreed. It's RNG to see any rares at all but most users don't because they pop up for the 2% who refresh into the opening at the EXACT second, usually for people using script to cheat. Lost is better because even if you show up with 400 items left, you'll probably find something from 2011-14 within two refreshes.}
{And the Pound does kinda have that, but it's uncommons and under. It needs to be for rares too instead of all dropping right at the start.}

I'm not sure I understand the suggestion.

The selection of pets you get from the pound is, to my knowledge, already completely random. It is not the case that the early users get a selection of rares. Instead, what happens is that every user who hops onto the pound page when it opens gets to see a completely random selection of pets.

The reason as to why there are never any rare pets "late" into the pounds opening is this. What happens is that at the start you have 1,500 pets in the pound, with 20 pets being shown to each user. Let's say that at the opening of the pound, 100 users hop on. These users see, in total, shown 20*100 = 2,000 pets. This means it's pretty likely that out of the 1,500 pets in the pound, each is seen at least once. It could be the case that there are some pets that are seen by 10 users, and some that are seen by none, but on average each pet is seen.

This means that the rare pets are usually seen right from the start, and adopted pretty quickly. However, they are not more likely to be in the pound early. Every pet has exactly the same probability of being found in the pound at the start, it's just that people tend to adopt the rares more quickly than the commons. This will always be the case, because people want rare pets. The lost and found works exactly the same way, and I don't see how either could get more random.

I should note that the pound pets are absolutely not random at this time. If I have to I will sacrifice a few pound openings just to prove it and take screenshots

Tailish's explanation is correct. The pets on your pound page are random. They are just displayed by the age they were adopted, and people are generally more knowledgeable about what's valuable so they get taken quickly.

The lost and found is also displayed by age of the item (unless you get the same items displayed on your page twice in a row, and which point that repeated item is listed first). People just don't recognize items as easily, and are more inclined to select based on visual preference rather than trading value, so "valuable" things stick around longer.
