The Ancient Astronaut Theory basically says something like aliens visited Earth in the past and they helped ancient civilisations at that time develop their technology and culture. It also insinuates how the main religions were created because civilisations at that time saw aliens as very powerful beings and so dubbed them as gods.

The thing is very interesting indeed so you should definately research it yourself :3
