Wild horses of Thalija
The wild horses of Thalija are a friesian like breed with all characteristics of a friesian and a average height from 15 to 17 hands, but even 18 hands can occur. There isn't much known about them yet and we are still discovering more herds and horses to watch their behaviour and their life. Most of them are completely wild, but when we know a bit more about them, maybe we can manage to befriend some of the lonely Stallions and Mares that don't belong to a herd.

Plate Dragon #494 based on this drawing by InuImori
by imabanditø @ Wed May 01, 2024 10:04 am [Reply]

A Plate Dragon is a subspecies of dragon! They have "Plates" on the side of their cheeks and on their butts! They also have scales around their bodies such as on their faces, legs, and tail! Another unique feature are the "spikes" on the end of their tails and horns that can range in many different shapes and sizes that are used for protection and battle. They usually live in jungles or forests but can be found anywhere. They are extremely venomous, and can projectile their venom when in danger! They use this tactic when feeling threatened or scared so as long as you have good intentions they wont hurt you! They are feisty but you'll be lucky to have one as your friend if it gives you its trust!

Range Trotter #4727 based on this drawing by HowlingHooves
by Pandapop @ Thu May 02, 2024 8:16 am [Reply]

Range Trotters are the result of crossbreeding Orlov Trotters, Finnhorses, Welsh Cobs (section C & D) and Hanoverians. Later crosses of Quarter Horses, Paint and Appaloosas to gain color and to give a boost to their hardiness. With a height average of 13-15 hands, they're a hardy breed with characteristics for various disciplines.

Created for use as work, carriage and leisure riding horses originally, they now serve as long-distance range horses, such as work with Park Rangers and mounted officers.

Willing and eager personalities, most are quickly trained to be bombproof and therefore trusted mounts in all lines of work; some are being seen in local show jumping competitions, others are notably used in therapeutic sessions for their calm temperaments. Harness races and endurance trials are common for the breed, as they are able to sustain an extended trot without tire. Cross-Country competitions see some of the taller Trotters, but due to their cob lineage this is still uncommon.

Despite the variety of competitions and work these horses are being seen in, they are still famously skilled as endurance racers. Many competitors have chosen Range Trotters due to their tireless work ethic, as well as the ease in which they can be trained. Many have become champions in endurance trials, and they have quickly become a sought after breed for their natural ability.

Prompt:
(not me getting Completely distracted and down a Star Wars rabbit hole and suddenly finding myself reading about the history of Vestara Khai (Ben Skywalker's, aka Luke's son's, love)..)
Okay, nerd time. I feel lightsaber colors are a bit subjective in that you can either accept all the colors that have been shown in various types of Star Wars media (including books). Or you can go with the whole Disney declaring that only certain colors are canon. Personally I go for they are all canon, and maybe if there are historical inconsistencies they are just different dimensions (like if a time stream split). But in a way, it's all canon. (Though I prefer to forget Completely the whole Yuuzhan Vong war era.. yeesh that was just.. no. Too sad.)

I looked at the Wookiepedia about lightsabers, and this article about the color meanings, and this article explaining the colors. (those last two have some pictures for examples, but the wookiepedia have more color options) I even found this reddit article with a picture I referenced. From those,(and my own bias), well I'd like to say that this one would choose a cyan with silver colored saber. Originally, I wanted to choose something with both green and blue, or a golden hue. But going with the definition on that last image's link, and the color of the lightsaber I created when I was younger, I chose this color. ^_^ <3

(bolded the basic answer since I wrote so much..) (I have SO many tabs open rn.. ^_^" )

The thylacine is such a unique looking creature and I really do hope somehow there is a small pocket of live tigers somewhere in this world, and if not I would absolutely love to see them brought back to life.

Fun fact - the Thylacine was the largest carnivorous marsupial of modern times, and yes, with them being marsupials they had a pouch, though theirs was backwards opening (apparently the males had one too but only partial opening) and their litter size was up to four, which were dependent on their mother until they were at least half the full grown size!

Prompt:
I'd like to propose the baiji, or the Yangtze River Dolphin, native to the Yangtze River in China. It is, to date, the first dolphin species to be driven to extinction by humanity. The last known baiji died in 2002.

The baiji is also culturally significant, especially to local fishermen and boatmen. A tale in Chinese folklore talks about a beautiful young girl who lived with her stepfather on the banks of the Yangtze River. He was evil, and a greedy man out for his own self-interest. One day, he took the girl on a boat, intending to sell her on the market. But she freed herself by plunging into the river, whereupon a big storm came and sank the boat. After the storm had thus settled, people saw a beautiful dolphin swimming – the incarnation of the girl – which became known as the "Goddess of the Yangtze". The baiji, in the region of Yangtze, is regarded as a symbol of peace and prosperity. (From Wikipedia, edited to omit some sections)

I would love to have the baiji brought back to life, because of how important it is to the lives and culture of a group of people. It is also the only species in the Lipotes genus, marking its uniqueness. However, I'd also hope that the Yangtze will be changed into a more habitable area for the baiji, as industrialisation in China was part of the reason why they went extinct.

Prompt: the thylacine has always been very, very special to me. as i've gotten older, my interest has only grown. when the thylacine, also known as the tasmanian tiger, died due to oppressive human practices (such as hunting and the introduction of competitive species), the tasmanian devil also suffered, almost going extinct due to a skin condition that spread like wildfire. without the thylacines to hunt the sick and weak devils, these weaker individuals were allowed to reproduce and spread their illness, leading to the inevitable suffering that the tasmanian devils had to endure. thylacines were unique in their structure and role in the ecosystem; they're famous for their jaw, which legend says could "unhinge" into a wide, gaping smile. i still have hope for the thylacines... i can only cross my fingers and wish that i'll be alive to see their comeback. to meet one would be an ultimate blessing.

    • All trotters have five breeding slots. V1 trotters may still breed if they have available slots.

    • All breeding requests must be posted to this thread. Please do not PM individual artists unless asking direct questions regarding their breeding forms or information. Any forms sent via PM will be directed back to this thread.

    • All horses must be named, have a halter and an updated storage in order to breed. A warning will be given to users who abuse this on multiple occasions. This includes V1 trotters, if they are being used for breeding purposes.

    • Foals grow in 14 days from their post date. If a growth has not been posted for 30 days after the growth, please contact HowlingHooves directly via PM on-site.

    • Members may only request a max of 6 breedings per month, and may only request 2 breedings per artist.

    • Members may only request two Wild Dog Overo breedings per month, but both must be done by different artists.

    • Members should only request one breeding per post, unless otherwise stated by the accepting artist.

    • Any edits on parents are not guaranteed to pass to offspring. This decision is up to the breeding artist, and edits should not be requested to pass in forms. Edits must follow the above guidelines, regardless of whether the trotters are from V1 or V2.

    • Dyed manes and/or tails cannot pass to offspring. Colored hair is created via an item purchased in the shop or via customs, and as such foals should not have colored hair.

    • Overo can be bred together in Range Trotters! If the rolled outcome is OO, the foal will not be made but the slots will not be used either. The two horses used will be placed on a three day cooldown, after which the request can be rerolled or it can be scratched altogether. Again, if rolled OO the breeding will not be completed, but the slots return to the requester!

    • If twins are rolled in a double overo breeding, but one rolls OO only one foal will be made and the other foal deemed LWO. If both are rolled OO, please see the above rule to proceed.

    • Rules are subject to addition, alteration or removal at any given time.

    Image
    • Artists are encouraged to order breedings from others, but may create personal breedings so long as another staff member rolls the breeding, or it is seen being rolled via stream.

    • Personal breedings are not required to be posted on this thread, you may simply have them rolled and begin working on them.

    • Artists may make their own WDO breedings if they prefer. They are still limited at two, but they may create both per month if there is no one available to accept it, or if they prefer to create their own breedings.

    • Please direct any PM'd requests back to this thread.

    xxxxxxxArtist Breeding Guidelines;
    xxxxx
    Roll for twins - 7%
    >> If positive, roll for chimeric - 5%
    >>> Twins fuse, one foal made
    >> Roll for somatic mutation - 5% (all breedings/foals)
Non-genome types have a set roll rate per breeding.
    Common 50% / Uncommon 25% / Rare 10% / Limited 5%
Heterochromia has a 10% chance of occurring in every breeding .
Butterfly Spots have a 25% chance to create black spots if two are bred together.
Mesozoic/Raptor stripes have a 5% chance to be a darker color than the base.
Paleo Spots have a 5% chance of being lighter than the base.

KIT genes are not in effect! Horses can have multiple forms of white.
If you receive a breeding that shows KIT genes, please roll as if they were not. (RnTo -> Rnrn Toto)
Edits are not rolled passable; you may choose to add edits or not.

Prompt: All cats have not only whiskers on their face, but also whiskers on their legs, which are called carpal whiskers.

Carpal whiskers, also known as carpal vibrissae, are the specialized whiskers that cats have on their front paws. These leg whiskers are usually longer and thicker than the ones above their eyebrows or on their faces.

Though they may seem like an odd feature to have, carpal whiskers help a cat get a better sense of the ground they are walking on. They can detect minute changes in air pressure and temperature, which helps them identify any potential threats or prey that may be within their vicinity.

FREE sherpi adopt raffle! based on this drawing by boolif
by boolif @ Sat Apr 20, 2024 9:00 am [Reply]

Sherpis are playful, light hearted creatures. Despite being friendly its very rare to be approached by one, preferring to hide in their environment. They have hollow bones making them quite light and able to glide or float from one tree to another. This makes rumors of them being to fly very common but very few can. They have a flat large bone in there tail to help propel and balance them while gliding. The horns on their heads may resemable ears at first glance but they are not. Their ears are similar to owls and are hidden under their fur. Horns are used in nonverbal communication. Expressing intense feelings such as sadness, excitment, or anger, by glowing. It is very difficult for a sherpi to control their horns glow. The normal form of communication is chirping, purring, chittering, although when stressed some sherpis lose the ability to make noise. Size varies incredibly for sherpies the smallest being the size of a squirrel to reports of some as long as twenty feet! The average size is around three to six feet though. They live all around the world so keep an eye out. Remember sherpis are quite shy so if you want to meet one you'll have to look around!

Link to previous research post: Currently None.
Writing: Miles has a new-found project it seems. The other day, he approached me with a small shovel in paw and a bucket over his head as a helmet declaring "MAKE WAY! This is now an excavation site!"
So of course I had to ask just what he was doing. He eagerly told me about his new "scientific venture", and how he was going to dig up soil samples and test them for "strange and abnormal tastes". I gently reminded him not to eat dirt, and asked him why he felt this was neccessary.
Apparently, Shirl had mentioned that there was something different about the grass and soil... something "strange, unusual and new." I'm not sure what that means, but that Sprigon always seemed to have a sixth sense for these kinds of things. And if Miles was invested in this investigation, someone would need to make sure he didn't get carried away.
So this week Miles and I are going to do a little digging together. I even bought a few new "scientific" tools for us to play with. Even if nothing comes out of it, I know Miles will have a good time. He has invited some of the other yard critters to join him. So I'm about to have my hands full this week...

"Do you think there would be someone new to play with us in the waters?" asked hare to bug. "I bet! maybe if i find the end of my tail we can use that as a fishing line" Bug jokingly said and giggled. Hare could only roll thir eyes and smile at bug.
