Story:
Salty ocean mist made my brown, messy hair cling to my face. It didn't matter to me though. I ran down my town's wharf, hoping to get a front row viewing of the new ship unveiling.
My town relied on the ocean for pretty much everything. Food, water, sport, economy, you get my point. We had been using the same ships for a very long time, so a new ship was a pretty big deal. It was going to be huge. This one was going to be our third 'metal shelled' ship. It would be the most exciting thing since... Well, since the ship festival, but that happens every year.
Anyways, I finally reached the dock where the ship was to be unveiled. I pushed my way to the front, squeezing between people. I finally reached the front, somewhat winded. I stared up at the crane that held the massive white sheet over the ship. "Could there really be a ship under there?" It thought, the wind whipping my braids across my face. While moving the braid out of my face, I spotted a dog out of the corner of my eye. Or at least, I thought it was a dog. The dog was on the beach, a short swim away from the dock.
For as long as I could remember, I had always wanted a dog. My parents said I could only have one if it followed me home. They also said I would have to be the main care-taker, as they are only willing to pay the dog's medical bills. Our yard was a mixture of sand and grass, and the perfect area for a dog to spend the day in while I was at the Academy.
Glancing nervously from the ship to the beach, I decided that the dog was more important to me than the ship. Besides, I could watch from the beach anyways. There was nobody there too.
So, I inched away from the crowd, and walked to the edge of the dock. Nobody noticed me of course, they were all too focused on the ship. Taking a deep breath, I slid as quietly as possible into the icy, salty ocean water.
I swam as quickly and quietly as I could, my eyes shut tight. The water began to become less deep, and before I knew it, I was on the beach. I hid behind the rocks, a good ways away from the dog. I peeled of my sopping wet shoes and socks, and set them to the side. They would dry quickly, even on a cloudy day like this, because of the material.
Poking my head out from behind the rocks, I watched the dog. The first thing I noticed was it's tail. It was a dark, dusty, brown and scaly, just like his front legs. The rest of the dog looked just like a chocolate lab. Nervously, I stood up, and walked calmly up to the dog, stopping just a few feet away from where the dog had been laying.

My heart pounded in my ears. What was happening to me? My front legs were changing so they had scales, same with my underbelly and chest. My back ached as fins pushed up out of it, causing me to whine in pain. My tail turned scaly and sprouted fins. I looked down to see that my toes were webbed, and fins sprouted from those scaly legs of mine.
The transformation was complete. The professor who gave me the shot to change me was turned away. I decided to make a run for it, not wanting to undergo any other changes. Trying to be as quiet as possible, I jumped off the table, and onto the cement floor. I crept out of the room. But I wasn't quiet enough. The professor turned around and saw me, and came after me. I broke into a run, though my front paws seemed to to be stickier.
I skidded around the corner, a dead end. Except for a chair and a window. I glanced over my shoulder. The professor was gaining on me. Turning my head back to the window, I sprang forward onto the chair, and then out the window.
I plunged deep into the ice cold ocean water. I immediately began swimming, without even thinking about it. I decided I would stop when I got to land. Along the way, I caught fish, thoroughly enjoying myself.
Soon, the water level dropped, and I found myself walking on sand. It was then I realized how tired I was. I plopped down on the cool sand, and closed my eyes. As soon as I did, I heard foot steps. I opened one eye and saw human feet. Human girl feet. They came closer. They stopped just a few feet away from me. I raised my head.
