"What doesn't kill you can only make you stronger"Story:
Hope in DeathAdira sat alone, under a tall fruitful tree whose branches seemed to touch the heavens above. The sun shone brightly and casted it's radiant glow upon the land. A light and gentle breeze washed through every crevice and took the leaves up into a dance. Pups were playing about, laughing and utterly oblivious to any impending danger. The adults stood nearby keeping a watchful eye upon the young and conversed with one another without a care in the world.
And there she sat, shaking like a leaf, Tears falling down her cheeks like rushing rivers. Alone, painfully alone. Naught an hour ago she had heard the news, that the last remaining soul that she cared about had been whisked away. It seemed her heart no longer existed, as if it had shattered and the pieces had just turned to dust. There was nothing left to live for. There was nothing she had to live for.
Her head was directed toward the cold icy ground, those beautiful blue eyes looked soulless and was missing the life that was once captured behind those glassy spheres.
How could such a perfect day....be so. imperfect?
"Why must they all be gone? Is it because they didn't love me? Was it because they'd rather be dead then be here in my presence?" she asked herself, choking on the last sentence. That part hurt the most. Every terrible thought she could think of went rushing through her head, death was getting the better of her. And yet even though she knew it, she continued to let herself spiral down the black hole whose power continued to grow as she fed her emotions.
"What more could be done now? I have lost everything of value...everything I loved. What do I live for?" Adira said but stopped as she heard someone approach. It was an older male whose coat was as grey as stone and just as smooth. His pelt was decorated with black markings that traveled all the way to the tip of his curled tail. His horns were bubbling with water.
"I couldn't help but overhear." He said, his voice silky and sweet almost like honey.
"oh. You..ah heard me." she said with a sigh looking away in embarrassment.
He nodded simply before sitting beside her, sighing with her in an attempt to show he felt for her. "I'm sorry about you loss, a lot of us have been loosing family." he said glancing over at her with those crystal eyes. Adira didn't reply, merely nodded in acknowledgement that he had spoken. "You know, I lost my wife a few years ago, I know things will never be the same. Family. People as close as that can never be replaced, but that doesn't mean you give up living." he said nudging her with a paw. Adira glanced up at him now, but her eyes remained soulless and deep.
She didn't want to be comforted, she wanted to sulk in her tears and wallow in her sorrows. But somehow just the kindness of a stranger was beginning to change her mind. "but what is there to live for? I have no one." Adira said softly. The male shook his head," you have me, as well as the others here. We may not be your immediate family, but we are a family none the less." he said, his eyes now wandering over the lands, a smile curling his lips as he watched the pups play. "You are young Adira, too young to have lost so much. But you have so much to live for. Live for yourself. Chase your dreams. The possibilities are endless....don't let the sadness take you, that's no way to live. Your family wouldn't want to see you this way." he said now looking at her once more.
Adira felt a fresh batch of tears come falling down. "but I'm not strong enough....I wasn't strong enough to save them." she looked away again. He stood up and sat in front of her, using his nose to raise her face so their eyes met. "you are stronger then you think Adira. Believe in yourself, and you will find the things you are searching for. I hope you find happiness in loss, just as I have done." he said before making his way back to where he had come.
Adira was again alone beneath the large tree, leaves falling around her still form. The sun was beginning to sink below the horizon line, and the colors of pink and and yellow washed over the rich blue. It was time to make a decision, everything the male had said only made her wonder what possibly was out there that could bring her the joy that she was missing. It was true, wallowing in sorrow was no way to live. She looked up and watched the pups who were tackling each other and hitting their horns together. Adira slowly rose to her feet, her nose wandering up into the swirling breeze, her eyes began to return the color it had once held.
"Death shall not take me
No longer shall I fall
No matter what tries to break me
I'll fight and conquer all"
And with the Fading lights of day Adira watched the night sky blossom and reveal it's glimmering stars.
"I have not forgotten about you father, mother, sister. But it is my time to live, and when the time comes my time to die. I await the day when we are reunited, but until then, I will be here, searching for my purpose, searching for my strength. searching for joy."
Interaction with the Dark"would you at least try to keep up Adira." Titus called over his shoulder as he continued at his brisk pace. Titus, the young male Adira had come to befriend as a child continued on, forcing Adira to race forwards to keep up. "Why are you in such a rush? Where are we going anyways?" she questioned, her eyes studying Titus's face in an attempt to discover the answer. Titus gave her an irritated glance before continuing onward.
The sky was darkening now, the sun setting behind the looming trees and all was quieting down for the night. The pair of young Lyko's continued their journey ever further into the forests depths.
"Titus!" Adira called, she now stopping in her tracks hastily. "WHAT ADIRA!?!" He fumed spinning around angrily and giving her a twisted look. "We should turn back.....it's getting late....and you know the stories......"Titus scoffed, rolling his eyes in amusement. "What? Your afraid of legendary demons. You do realize those are just old wise tales to scare the pups into not wandering off." "They arnt just some wise tales Titus! Come on let's get back to the others..." Adira said, an urgent tone to her voice. "Ah I see what's going on, your just afraid of the dark!"
"Am not!" Adira interjected forcefully. "Then your afraid to get in trouble. When are you ever going to live on the edge? Experience a little danger?" Titus said, now standing right in front of her, inches from her face. "I-I ...well." "Come on Adira." Titus cooed, nudging her reassuringly before trotting ahead. Adira glanced up into the branches, the final flecks of gold were fading to black, and she couldn't help but feel uneasy. She ruffled her fur, narrowed her eyes, and shook off the feeling of doubt as she bounded after her companion.
It seemed they had been walking for ages, the forest seemed even more unwelcoming as the night drew on, and the silence enveloped the air around them. The only light source around was coming from Adira's horns, but they didn't comfort her, for the shadows castes put her even more on edge.
The pair were now walking side by side, Titus still appeared to be unshaken and Adira seemed even more petrified then before. "Titus, please tell me why we are out here." Adira pleaded, moving closer to him as she heard a noise. Titus sighed, giving her a glance from the corner of his eye before looking forwards. "I'm going to find Farthau. Bring my parents back." Titus answered.
Adira skidded to a halt, her paws digging into the dirt, rage filling her like a fire. "YOUR WHAT!!!" her voice echoed through the tree's and faded into the distance. "I thought you said that was just a bunch of Tom-foolery! A lie! ARE YOU INSANE! He betrayed all of us, have you learned nothing!" Her voice was sharp and her gaze was hardened. Titus was upon her, his teeth bared in defense. "Don't you dare patronize me! You would do the same to get your family back! This is our chance!" Titus argued.
"You've gone mad!" she said, back -peddling in fear, he following after her. "Adira....come on....you can get your parents back......isn't that what you want?" Titus asked, his eyes softening and looking at her with an unspoken passion.
"Not like this Titus." Adira said raising her head, her eyes strong and unfaultering. "I won't bring them back like this. I will not betray the others for some selfish need! They are all dead Titus! Why can't you accept that!" She snapped. She lowered her eyes and flattened her ears against her skull. "Your not the same Lyko I met ten years ago. You are not my friend." She said softly turning on her heel and began walking away.
"Fine! Go then Adira! I'll bring them back myself! You'll see! You'll be sorry...." Titus said, turning away from her and heading off towards the deeper part of the woods.
Adira kept her eyes on the dark earth beneath her, not wanting to look over her shoulder to see if Titus was still standing there or if he had left. What had posessed him to go to such extremes?
Just then a sharp cry broke into the silence and then disappeared as quickly as it had come. "Titus? TITUS!" Adira screamed, racing in the direction where she thought it had come. "Titus! Ti-"
There he lay in the darkness, a shrowd of death enveloped him. Adira took cautious steps forwards, "Titus?" she whispered, inching forward while shivers ran up and down her spine.
In a moment she was face to face with a dark figure, but her eyes didn't dare wander up, for she knew what it was. A demon. She remained there, her eyes locked on the ground, but her teeth were bared, and the lightning within her began to crackle and brake the surface.
"what are you doing out here so late at night? A young female like yourself?" It asked her, it's voice shaking every ounce of her being. "Dont you listen to the stories? Lyko's go missing in these woods at night." he snapped, it's large jaws only centimeters from her ear.
"Stay back Demon." She growled, a crackle of lightning illuminating the air around them. It chuckled, it's black eyes looking at her with a demented glance. "I wouldn't do that If I were you." it warned, "you might attract some more company...." It said, now circling her. "Stay back." she warned again, her eyes watching its legs for she didn't dare move up furthur.
