It was getting dark, and the wind was picking up. I was walking home, only in a tanktop and shorts. It was summer, so I had been like that all day, and since I lost track of time, I would have to walk in the cold wind and darkness of the night.
I stopped for a bit. My legs were killing me. I had been walking for an half an hour, and had an hour left until I got home. Yes, I hated the fact that my friend lived so far away from me, but, there was nothing I could do, I never had to walk home until now. I looked up towards the streetlight that was shining right above me. I then looked behind me to notice a secret shortcut that me and my friends used to take a couple years back. It was a forest-like area containing a hard-to-see pathway leading to her area. It surrounded by trees, and other nature related objects, and animals that no one talked about, and tried avoiding.
This shortcut was said to be dangerous, therefore, we only went there when we were on our bikes, to avoid major danger. Danger that we didn't know specifics about. I looked around, no one in sight. I slowly got up, looked again, and nervously started headed inside the trees.
It was dark, and the already hard-to-see pathway was barely in sight. I then took out my iPhone, and put on the flashlight app. This helped my to see where I was going. So, I made sure my iPhone wouldn't auto-lock on me.
I was half way through the forest, and closer to my house than I would have been if I took the normal, long way. After exiting the forest, I would know that there would be 10 minutes left for me to get home. Including the 15 minutes it took to get through, I saved quite a bit of time, and quite a bit of effort.
Almost there, bit it was oddly quiet, too quiet. Then, as if I jinxed myself, I heard a ruffling noise beside me. I stopped in fear. I quietly turned towards the noise. There is was again, the same ruffling noise. I looked down to the bush, and the leaves all around it. I saw it move. Startled, I stepped back a bit, and tripped over a log that was placed right behind me. I fell on the other side of the log, my feet drapped over the log, towards the pathway. I heard small footsteps. I couldn't move, I was paralyzed with fear. Fear of the worse.
The footsteps stopped at my right side. I slowly turned my head, and I couldn't see anything. Out of all the days, why did the night have to betray me today? I slowly took the fallen phone off of the ground, and shone it towards my right. And at that moment, I got wide-eyed, I screamed, and struggled to get up. The beady brown-ish eyes of the mysterious creature still planted into my head. I finally got up, leaning against a tree, still shining the light on the creature. It came closed towards me. I then noticed how small it was compared to me, and how cute it actually looked.
Nervously, I bent down to some-what match it's level, trying to get a better view of him, his eyes following me with every movement. I slowly pulled my hand out of my pocket, and started reaching out towards the creature, trying to pet his golden and silver fur. He rapidly pulled back, startling me in the process. I kept my hand there, and gave him a soft smile. He cautiously started towards me, and tapped his nose to my hand. I lifted my hand, he flintched a bit, but calmed down and I gently stroked the top of his head, down towards his back. His fur was so soft, but a little on the scruffy side, probably due to being out here for as long as he could possibly have stayed. After a while, I noticed that he had a little Christmas Wreath look-alike around his neck.
After much time, I got Scruffy's fur straightened up. I only named him Scruffy because of how I first saw his fur. I didn't want to spend too much time naming him. I then looked at the time, and saw that I had spent half an hour with the little fella'. I patted his head, and told him I had to leave, knowing that he wouldn't understand what I had said. I got up, and started walking.
A few seconds later, I heard little footsteps, and I looked behind me. There was Scruffy, shuffling up behind me, stopping right by my side. I looked at him. I kept walking. And for the rest of the way, that's all me and Scruffy would do.
I got to the end of the forest, Scruffy still behind me. He looked up at me, with what looked like pleading eyes. I couldn't help myself. I got on the ground, crossed my legs, and looked at him. He was patiently sitting in front of me. I asked him if he wanted to come home with me. As if he understood what I asked, he got up and ran on top of me. I smiled, picked him up, and brought him home.
