Since you asked for some hints, I'd suggest coloring on a different layer than your lines. =) This would get rid of all the little white spots you see around them. Create a layer once you start drawing and draw your lines on that layer; color in the lines with a brush or pen tool underneath (as opposed to a fill tool; I can't remember what tools CS's oekaki has). Once you've got the hang of that, you can always go to your coloring layer, click "lock alpha" and try your hand at shading. Layers will be your best friend in any oekaki. In any case... there's nothing wrong with cartoon animals~ Without cartoon animals, after all, we would be missing some pretty important characters!
Warning. I have not played CS actively since 2014. Chances are, I don't know whether a pet was from and event, or a monthly, or a token pet. In turn, I operate by the prior year's UC = current years C rule when unsure. I return seasonally for Halloween, when I sometimes also try to pick up items I like. I will not take kindly to rudeness.
