Shadowheart just looked at the ground (not that she could see it) tears streaming down her face. What did it matter now? Calico was gone. He was dead trying to save her and their unborn kits. Lynxheart yowled, From this day forth you shall be known as Shadowedsoul because of your poor decisions. Shadowedsoul winced at her new name, And you shall no longer be part of this clan. Shadowedsoul looked up at Lynxstar in disbelief, and although she could not see her face, she could feel pleasure radiating off of her. Lynxstar had wanted to get rid of her from the start. Leave now, or we'll chase you off. Hisses and curses flew at her. She streaked out of the camp. She kept running until she came to the end of Clan territory, where she collapsed.
9 weeks later...
Shadowedsoul licked her three kittens, trying to get them to sleep. Mamma? said a voice, much like Calico's. Shadowedsoul shivered. Spottedkit (a passing loner had told her what they looked like when they were small) was much like his father. His voice was a higher then Calico's, but she could still hear the same ring as his dad and from the description the loner had told her, he looked almost the same. Yes, Spottedkit, she said. Why is Icekit so cold? the young tom asked. Shadowedsoul shot up and went to the runt of the litter, Icekit, who was a pure white she-cat. She nudged the small kit, but Icekit didn't move. Icekit? Shadowedsoul asked, Icekit, Icekit? Icekit! the painful truth came to her. She began to sob, Icekit... she curled herself around Icekit's now cold lifeless body. She buried her kit and sat vigil with Spottedkit and Leafkit, a black she-cat with brown and white spots.
1 year later...
Shadowedsoul jumped over a small creek with Spottedpaw's and Leafpaw's help. Your across, said Spottedpaw softly. Shadowedsoul sighed in relief. She continued on with Leafkit at her side, who sadly inherited Shadowedsoul's genes and was blind, twined her tail with her mothers. Mother! Spottedpaw yelled as Shadowedsoul's front paws felt the edge of cliff. The warning came too late for Leafpaw. The young cat yelped as she tried to hold on to the cliff's edge. Leafpaw! Shadowedsoul said and she reached out to feel for Leafpaw's front feet. She gripped them, and tried her best to pull her last she-cat kit out. She felt strong jaws grab the other front leg. Leafpaw whimpered in fear. We'll get you up. We'll get you up, Shadowedsoul whispered softly, but she spoke to soon. Leafpaw's paws slipped out of her grip and Spottedpaw couldn't hold her by himself. She heard Leafpaw scream as she fell, then she heard a soft thump. No! Shadowedsoul screamed in horror. No! There was no vigil for Leafpaw. They scented a bear in the area. Later that night, Shadowedsoul cried herself to sleep, all the while whispering, Why StarClan? Why me?
