Ivy Lake is a normal 14-year-old in a not so normal town. In her town, it is perfectly normal to see people turning into animals and animals into people. Because in her town, almost everyone who is older then 20 can transform into an animal. They usually gain their power somewhere between the ages of 13 and 18. Ivy has not gained her power. Her parents assure her that it won't be long until she learns what kind of animal she will be able to turn into.
One day, Ivy left her room at the start of her day. She saw a black panther, her older sister, sunning herself in a patch of light. At Ivy's approach, the panther transformed into a 16 year old girl with pitch black hair. "Hello sis." She said, getting up off the ground. "Where are you going, this warm summer's morning?" "Just a little walk." Ivy said. "Exactly where?" Her sister said. Ivy left the room and rolled her eyes. Her sister always had to know where she was going. How could she tell her is SHE didn't even know. Ivy spent the day walking along town, watching the many animals walking down the streets along with people. She turned onto a corner and bought a hot dog. She ate it and continued walking. She stopped at a large drain. There were no people around, not even a single bird. She looked above the drain and saw a small fence under a concrete wall. The fence was bent and broken at one end, leaving a gap big enough for her to squeeze through. She shrugged. Why not? It isn't tresspassing, just cutting into another street. She pulled herself under the wall. This new street was different from her old one. It was trashed and looked unused. She peeked around and saw a lone cat walking down the alley. It wasn't a human, just a normal animal making its way tword a trash can, but Ivy hid anyway until the cat had left the alley. The place had freaked Ivy out. Ivy then heard a barking. A large black dog came bounding down the alleyway. Ivy screamed and ran twords the wall, she tripped and pulled herself up again, the dog coming closer. Ivy reached the bars and gasped. They only would allow her to go in, not out. Ivy closed her eyes in terror.
Then she felt the sensation of falling... falling... falling... then a muffled impact on the ground. She opened her eyes. Everything seemed different, smaller. The dog sounded different, like the noise was slightly muffled. Her vision was strange. Then she realised, she had transformed into an animal. But what kind? It seemed like she was some sort of insect. Ivy groaned, but it came out as a hiss, making her groan again. She was a cocroach.
