CK's Nightmare wrote:Ok... I need help. I would be really happy if someone would be interested in helping me out with making these, I'm too forgetful and busy to keep track of this alone.
Do not post here, but PM me an apply telling me:
- what you know of them(NO COPY-PASTE)
- Some examples of art/coloration.
- why you would like to help out.
You can add anything else if you think it's necessary :3
I need someone who is creative and that I can trust, and that understand and have interest for the specie.
Apply for them at each ones thread/image, not as a comment here.
And please do try to let the story be somewhat true to/fit their way of living ^^'
Oceancat, Panthera leo aquea?
Paying for your cat
They are free, but I do demand knowing the use of the cat, and other info, such as name, age and maybe a little story of it's life. From that I will choose(or just randomly pick one) the new owner for the cat.
Anatomy, why?
They're supposed to be between 67 to 80 cm(26.4 to 31,5 in) tall, and has a more "square" anatomy than most other larger cats. it's almost as tall from ground to shoulder as it's long from chest to bum. The face has a somewhat short muzzle with a wide nose. Inside the muzzle hides needle-sharp teeth, designed to catch fish. These can easily break, so using these in a fight is out of question.
The eyes are quite big with normally huge pupillars(will of course react to light). Large pointy ears serve a good hearing, males will have a tuft of fur on the tip.
The most characteristic though is the two wing-like growths on their shoulders/backs. They're only good for them to swim underwater(where they can stay up to 15-20 min). These wing-like things help the cat move forward, while the tail alongside with the feet keep it balanced and help to turn. The fur on the fluff on the tail it really light and soft while it's dry, but gets quite heavy once wet.
Colors and markings
The body can have most any color(Warm colors usually don’t appear as bright as cold ones, meaning red will not be pure, it may have a more a hint of grey),
exceptions of color: black(quite dark back and markings can occur though), gray or white(albinos can happen, and are more cream-colored. These are REALLY rare). They can't have black, white or gray/silver coat-colors. I know I repeat myself. some just seem to have had an issue to notice just some stuff here
They always have one main color, where the belly is a lighter shade of that color, and on the back a darker one. From either the lighter, darker or both colors, there can be formed any natural pattern(meaning mostly spots and stripes).
(Dark on top and light under are for camouflage, no exceptions of this coloration).
Noses can be pink-brownish-black
Eyes can be most any shades within green, blue, yellow(not neon), amber/orange, brown, gray/silver and red-like(only for albinos).
Inner side of “wings” and tailfluff: Gold, silver or copper. Other metallic colors can occour, but are less common.
Ways of living
The Oceancat is a non-aggressive and peaceful creature. They will only fight when their own life or their cubs are in danger.
They can live alone, a couple with cubs or a small pack. a female may have up to three cubs, but one or two are most common.
Both open seas, small lakes and rivers are suitable places for them to live, as long as they can catch fish there.
Captivity: They won't do well captured. They have an active lifestyle and most would get depressed with limited space and still-standing water. They would also be depressed to the extreme if they didn't have the ability to swim anywhere at all.
They can live up to 20-25 years, and are considered adult at five years old.
Breeding, pregnancy and growing up
Most males are capable of breeding when between 3-4 years, and most females 4 years. However they usually doesn't have any cubs until five years or later.
They grow infertile(unable to breed) when they are close to 20 years old, and by this time they should have been able to have had up to 8 litters with cubs. But considering there may have been miscarries, refusal of mates and there might have been little food for a while(lack of nutrition can cause temporary infertility) they're more likely to have had less pregnancies.
Colors of the parents does not effect the child very much. Look-alike markings from parent to child happens though.
They're pregnant for about three months (90 days). Cubs are born with eyes closed, with large ears and the fins/wings does not have any web(it grows out as they age. When they're around 3 and a half year it should be almost outgrown).
Oceancats are incapable of breeding with another specie, as the.. I don't really know what to call it, but the cub-to-be never could settle in it's mother without causing a miscarriage shortly after if only one of the parents were an Oceancat. This sometimes happen under normal circumstances as well.
Other
Specie, and current designs copyrights to me.
You're free to suggest colors at any time! (Main color, and which metallic color) But I won't make customs.
People seem to hardly read about these and so I'm sure rules for coloration won't be followed, these are not a specie you're free to make characters of.
