Patches has been my horse since I was a girl of 10. Shes 9 years old now and acts like a foal. We got her when her owner was about to leave her stranded in the road, her bones were showing, maggots crawled in her mane and tail, flies would buzz by her ear, she had an open gunshot would on her torso, and she had a lot of ticks. I put a root-made halter around her delicate muzzle. I led her to my yard, We had 2 horses already, Marque, and Chestnut. When I carefully led the filly onto the soft grass that covered out 3 acre lawn. I led her into the stall, and first bathed her in peanut butter, so the ticks would die painlessly. Next I went on cleaning her mane and getting the maggots out, and then got rid of the flies. Then I carefully scrubbed the dirt off her fur. To reveal that she was no longer a dark blackish brown, but a golden brown with blackish spots. She had a black mane that shone in the moonlight. I called my dad in to help with the open wound. I cooed her and made her less nervous while my dad cleaned all the dirt, bugs, and gun powder out of it. This all took 2 days and to this day. She has a scar the shape on a... well scar. xD
