Never

Postby Klaora » Tue Sep 27, 2011 11:12 am

Upon coming to CS, I said that I wouldn't use other people's works and color them in.
That was a lie.

The other day, I was terrible: in hysterics, kinda freaking out. I just wanted to color, not draw, to get stuff off of my mind. So I go to the editable Oekaki to find this beauty.
Now...the line-art was not usable for me. It was sketchy, the lines didn't close, etc. The rules stated that it was okay to "Edit to suit," so I took that liberty and created my own version from the sketch, changing a few things as well.
Considering the amount of work that went into this, I do not feel that this can be attributed to one person or the other, but rather to both. Either way, I do hope that my use of these lines are acceptable.
And I feel a bit better now.

XDD Wow, don't think I've ever received comments so quickly on the other boards as I have here. :P

Anyway, thank you very much to you both, Tsumewolf and CrystalBlood56. I really appreciate it. :3

O.o Do they even feature things from the Colored in, zorse? XD If they have, I'm not sure I've ever noticed.
But thank you so much. <3 I must say that your reaction made me laugh. XD

I will respond to you in the most polite way that I can because, honestly, that was the most back-handed compliment I've ever received. I apologize if this reads angrily, but I assure you that is not the emotion I'm trying to get across.

I don't mind that you like the original better. That's fine, people have their preferences. I do wish you would at least explain WHY you like it more so that I can do better next time. It's fine to have your opinion, but if your opinion is purely negative, some help would be appreciated.

And, no, I don't know what the lava looks like. That's not helpful in any way. I don't know whether that means it's good, bad, or that it looks like I took a bloody nose to the canvas.

Saying "sorry" or "no offense" doesn't really negate everything; since you've offered some specific negative opinions, some specific positive ones would be nice as well.
I LOVE criticism, but there's a pretty well understood "constructive" in front of that word, which highlights the good, points out the bad, and tells one how to fix the problems one might be having.

I appreciate your comment and criticism, but I would like to ask that if you express a negative opinion in the future, at least offer some helpful words as well. Otherwise, it doesn't do anything for me in the least and merely pushes my self-esteem lower.
And I ask that you do this for ALL artists.
Thanks for your time, and thanks again for your comment. I would like to reiterate that I'm not particularly angry, but just at a loss of how to respond to such a thing.

I'm very sorry, and I will explain.
I think the lave should be a tiny bit more shiny, or just a tiny bit less shaded. Or maybe I'm just a little strange and prefer shiny things.
And as to why I prefer the original better, I just like sketchy lines. I don't even know why. Although I do like some things better on your one.
Well, I do have to say I really love the way you shade. It just looks mixed between realistic and non-realistic, which makes it look really nice. Also, I do have to say I actually do like your background ;)
Okay, now I again apologize for my lack of comment on the previous post.
Thank you if you red(Read? Red? I'm not sure) this C:

It's quite alright, and I would like to apologize if I was a bit harsh in any way. ^^; I could have said "thank you" and left it at that, but I feel that would be borderline lying. I much prefer to be direct and honest about such things instead of letting them lie. :3
And so if I've offended or seemed ungrateful, I am sorry. That was not my intention. Looking back, I still acted with more emotion than logic than I had meant to.

And that helps a lot. :3 I've always had problems painting lava and have tried multiple times. It's so weird, as it's such a strange mixture of colors and it glows from the heat. It's a little different than fire because it's in a solid form. However, I shall take that to heart next time I attempt such a thing and may edit this if I am able. (I have a habit of merging layers since I tend to have 30+ if I don't. ^^;; )
Ahh, that's understandable. I like sketchy lines for sketches, but I much prefer clean line-art for coloring. Had I colored with the original, I imagine it to look quite strange. I will say that the original had much better detail than I could ever do. ^^;

I do apologize if one part seemed as if I was fishing for compliments, as that was not my intent. Critiques usually follow a "kiss/slap" sort of method and that was all that I had meant. ^^
Regardless, I really appreciate it. I've been trying to do cartoons that feel like a painting. This background in particular isn't one I'm rather proud of, but I appreciate it. :3

And, nah, I think it was just a misunderstanding on both of our parts. (Or perhaps I'm blowing things out of proportion. ^^;)
Again, thank you and, once more, I'm sorry if I came off mad or irritated. I just don't like to beat around the bush on such things. ;)
