Coloring Guide

Postby Klaora » Tue Sep 13, 2011 6:06 pm

How to use:
1. Hide the Title
2. Hide and un-hide each "page" as you go along.
3. Profit.

I've been asked probably a hundred times for tips, tricks, or just general "how to" when it comes to coloring. Not sure why, but I figured I would make this to prevent from repeating myself so many times.

As usual, this is by no means a complete, comprehensive, 100% perfect guide. Just how I do things as well as some mistakes beginners tend to make.

I got the idea to do it like this from Harpalyce. She has some pretty awesome human tutorials you should check out. :3
Let me know if you find any errors or have any questions that I can help you with. ^^

As the day dies, with tears in our eyes
There's too few hellos and too many goodbyes
Silence answers our cries...where are we going from here...

We're all on this road, with miles to go
Braving new pathways into the unknown
But who do you ask, when no one really knows
Where we are going from here...

Looked through it, and while I didn't need it much personally, I think I'll bookmark it anyways so I can try to spread the word to other artist ^.^ Thanks for making it!

I read though it [although I thought I didn't need it] The simple reminder about colors was really nice :3 And for art beginners in general! Great Job, I would suggest this to artists of any level! :D

Thanks guys. :3

It was mostly made to go over basics and more of a few different ideas that I don't see used very often and is mostly aimed towards those a bit more inexperienced. I'm glad if it's helped in any way. ^^
And if you think you can make one better, by all means go ahead. :3 If you feel something should be added or if something was unclear, please share and I'll edit to the best of my ability.

Thanks for your support. :D

Small useful tip that may create some WONDERFUL artists on here: why not do a quick lesson on smoothing? It's improved my art a lot, and there are so many wonderful artists out there who art extremely talented at drawing, they just don't know how to use Oekaki to it's full potential. I could even write up all the info you could put it in, all you would have to do is write it in. (I would do it myself in my own tutorial, but even the magic of smoothing can't help my handwriting >.<)

YAY MORE TUTORIALS~~~ Thank you for this!!

This was really, really useful - I know I often color things in a distinctly flat manner, and I've been trying to work on making things more dynamic and colorful.
