Redline for . Rose .

Postby apache~ » Sat Sep 10, 2011 11:16 am

They were close so I felt like helping them ^^;
Mine may not be perfect mind you, but it is how I would draw it. I am not looking for crits, this is just for Rose and anyone else who wants to learn from this.

1.) Ears. I pointed them slightly to the front, but mainly they should be very pointy at the top. Cat ears are also thin but I like them thicker, if you want to you can do them thinner than this.

2.) Eyes. Cat eyes when viewed from the side would be slanted, and actually looking more like a triangle. See this image (i did not use it as a ref but it is a good example of what I mean)

3.) Mouth and Nose. I would point the mouth down more, like so. The nose I like to show like a rabbit's nose, instead of a triangle because that is my style. If you did it you might want to draw a very thin triangle. Also remember that the upper part of the mouth overlaps the under part! This is important because cats have circular like muscles near their mouths and you should draw it so the skin slightly overlaps the bottom jaw. Yours looked sorta like the bottom was overlapping the top :>

4.) Front Legs. Cats do not stand straight. Their legs usually bend slightly, as if they were snowboarding or skiing. So you don't want them so up-right! Have a bit of a slant to them, sort of towards their face. The front legs stand up straighter than the back. EDIT: it's not really that they don't stand straight, but I think this is a more natural looking pose and to get the fluid-like movement of the cat I think this would be a better approach.

5.) Back Legs. As said above, the back legs need to be slanted. you came close to the anatomy otherwise, but your stomach came up too high giving the cat too much '"thigh", if you will.

6.) Tail. I would just have it come to more of a point, yours looked a bit too thick. Make sure to make it thinner with a short-haired cat! mine was a little fluff y so it had some fluff on the tail.

7.) Back. A cat's back is not straight either! it is slightly tappered down. Cats are much more flexible than dogs so they have a bigger tapper. Notice that the middle of their back sort of goes up before it goes down.

Also, Rose, I let you color it in so that you could get a better view of the redline if it showed up weird. It looks fine to me but it may be too dark for you or something! so yeah :>

Want a redline? Shading help? Post here and either link it to me or post if you want me to do a shading tutorial. I may do one through oekaki but it will be sort of crunched, so idk :/
