Our Little Friend
the rabbit that lived under the porch
2 years ago, my mother and i found a rabbit making itself at home, under my mothers porch. since my mother lives in a farm area, wild rabbits are common to see on our front yard. but this particular rabbit, would often come back under my mothers porch, after grazing. we were really happy that it made its home under the porch. though it was wild, we claimed it as our little wild friend, that can roam free and come back whenever it wanted. of course it wouldn't go outside or inside when one of us is out cleaning the yard and such. it would either scurry inside, or bolt away, which was always fun because i loved watching it hop away. well... about six months ago, we've been seeing this black cat around our yard and figured, that it was our next door neighbors, just down the road. since then, we haven't been seeing any of the rabbits grazing on the lawn except one.
one day, my mother said that she saw the black cat crawl under the porch sometime in the morning, where the rabbit lived. we were pretty worried, but when we drove back home from the mall, we saw that the rabbit was unharmed, and it scurried under the porch as usual, "i hope that cat doesn't hurt my rabbit," my mother said. after a couple months, today i decided to pay my mother a visit. i went there and looked at the porch, thinking about the rabbit. then i went inside to greet my mother, we were talking about my brother and my aunts, then i brought up the rabbit. she said, that about a week ago, my mother came back from doing groceries, and saw the black cat dragging the rabbit out from under the porch.
im pretty sad to know that about our little friend, the rabbit under the porch was all i could think about the whole day. i thought about how happy it was, just hopping around and eating some of my mothers plants. i thought about how terrified it must have been, facing that cat. i was pretty mad at first, but... i know that this is nature. and where ever it is. we know that it's even happier.
you will be missed, our dear little friend~
