"Heeeeere, fishy, fishy, fishy..."
I let out an enormous yawn as I stumbled my way down from my den that rested a few yards up the bank, safe and secure from any flooding that may arise from the lakefront. I didn't actually know that for a fact- my den was a new one. I had just recently finished digging out my home that spared just enough room for myself.
Yes, yes, I was bachelor, and still needed to find a pretty girl to den up with me, but until the time, I didn't need any extra room down there- you had no idea how many tried to claim it as there own as I was digging.
I stifled another yawn as I sat on a mossy spot hidden under a tree. My exhaustion had come from my den preparations. The day before I had worked tirelessly on it, and was so very close to finishing it by the end of the day, I decided not to stop and worked wearily into the night. I had no difficulties seeing- my eyesight was quite amazing in the dark, as it was for most of my species.
And so, with all the hard work I preformed yesterday, I payed for it today.
Shaking my fur out, I stood back to my feet. No time to sit the day away- I needed fish, and quickly. Since most of my efforts had been centered on my den, I had only a few moments to fish, so today my stomach ordered me to fish, and that was final.
Trotting down to the waters edge, I dipped my front right paw into the water and, after feeling nice liquid run over my paw, I sighed. Just the right temperature.
I leaped into the water, not a bit worried about the fish- if they scattered, which I knew they did, I'd just take in a gulp of air, wait at the bottom of the lake, and snatch one that happened to wander by.
"Hey!"
Once I resurfaced, I noticed I wasn't the only one on the lake. A pretty vixen sat at the waters edge, her dark gray, almost black fur, was now drenched in water. I gave her a quick, apologetic smile.
"Sorry!"
I could see she was unfazed by my words- her blue and green eyes just glared over at me.
With a shrug, I took in a breath of air and dove.
With my amber eyes wide open, I took in the lake I knew and loved. My parents had raised myself and my siblings on just the other side, so I knew this lake fairly well.
My strong legs and arms helped propel me down, with the help of my fins of course. As I got lower and lower, my ears began to ache a bit, but it was a pain I was used to, and so, easy dulled out. Just pressure on my ear drums.
Once at the bottom, I began to notice my light was still on.
Perfect.
Stupid fish loved my light.
It actually took only a few moments, really.
As the first one flew by, I whipped my tail out and paralyzed it. With a bite to the neck to kill it, I shoved it into my hand, just in enough time to get the next fish.
My hands were full by five, so with a push of my hind legs on the muddy lake floor, I swam to the surface, releasing the air I had stored before taking another gulp of fresh air.
Swimming in the direction of my den, I noticed the vixen still sitting on the bank, trying to fish from where she was.
"You know... you're never going to catch fish like that." I told her, clumsily walking on my back legs as I tried to get the fish to land.
She gave me a dirty look before staring back into the water.
With a sigh, I took two fish in one paw and flung them over to her.
One accidentally smacked her on the side of the head- bad aiming on my part -but the other landed in front of her. At first she glared at me, and, I admit, I'd be pretty angry if someone threw a fish at my face. But then she noticed that she actually had food now.
"Thanks..." She mumbled, sniffing the silver fish.
"Nno pwobwem." I mumbled, stuffing the fish in my mouth as I made my way up to my den.
She- Jovanna was her name -actually turned out to be one of my only neighbors, although how long that lasted, neither of us knew. We became fairly good friends after that day.
;;Personality;;
-Sarcasm. He's quite fluent in this language. He picked it up from his father at a young age (boy did his mother love that!), and has slowly grown to be a master.
-Independent. When Ùisdean was sent from his own to fend for himself, he was briefly upset, but took it rather well compared to his sisters. As shown in the story above, he's very good at fending for himself by getting food and making a home even if it meant stating up all night.
-Relentless. As shown with his den, Ùisdean is relentless. He doesn't give up easily, and finishes no matter what the circumstance.
-Clumsy. Ùisdean is quite clumsy on land. He does spend most of his time on it, but he's much more graceful underwater. After all, gravity isn't as mean in the water as it is on land.
-Gregatious. Ùisdean is very gregarious, meaning social, and enjoys talking with others. Obviously being all along in a hole of dirt is quite boring and a bit sad for him, but he knows it won't last long.
;;Fact;;
-Only the males have a stinger and light like an angler fish. ^^
