This is the ghostly creature that Ted encountered when he ran away from his home and decided to explore. The forest he entered, unbeknownst to him, was called "Beyond the Realm". Here is an excerpt from the new series I am writing:
Suddenly Ted stopped as he caught an eerie howl on the air. It was so distant he had to strain to hear it, as if it had been heard through another realm. Immediately he stood paralyzed as the surrounding mist began to form an indirect shape- the shape of a dog with pricked ears, except it had a wild, untamed feeling about it. Although its eyes were hollow and see-through, they seemed barbaric. It swirled and twisted in front of him, its jaws opening and closing subtly. As it moved about in front of him, he heard a ghostly yet elegant female voice in his head. It seemed to echo silently throughout his mind.
You must find the barracks! it said persistently. Ted stared blankly at the misty white figure in front of him. He couldn't believe what he was seeing and hearing.
You must find the barracks! it said again, this time more harshly than the last.
Barracks of what? Ted thought.
The barracks of the enemy!
Ted stared in awe as he realized this ghost could hear his thoughts. He shook his head, not understanding what the strange creature meant. What enemy? What barracks?
I don't understand! What do you mean?
You are chosen! An ancient evil is rising. You must find the barracks and the enemy's stronghold.
Ted stood unnerved and scared as the figure coiled and spiraled abnormally, continually shifting and swirling.
I can't do that! I'm just a dog! Leave me alone!
Suddenly his mind seemed to shake with anger, but it wasn't his doing. The ghostly figure, which had been floating in the air, took on a more solid shape, its paws coming down to stand on the frozen earth. It's body no longer undulated, and instantly it came to him what this creature was supposed to be. It was a wolf. Ted watched as the ghostly she-wolf raised her hackles, the front part of her body lunging forward and sinking back again, her teeth bared in a snarl. She kept repeating this, and as he looked on her eyes became a glowing icy blue.
Hearken to me! the voice said angrily. Then she began to prophesy in his head.
A pack you shall come to
Their minds gloomy and blue
None shall befriend
Only two in the end
When departure cometh
The barracks will appear,
to which death and famine are revealed
and none can countervail
And when all seems lost
Only you shall prevail
Then the ghostly white wolf stopped lunging forward and back. The solid outline of the misty figure began to dissolve, becoming its original smoky, undulating shape. Her eyes became transparent once again, and with a bright flash, the figure and all the white haze that had concealed the forest vanished.
I thought this was worth intermediate. If not, mods can move it.
