Range Trotters are the result of crossbreeding Orlov Trotters, Finnhorses, Welsh Cobs (section C & D) and Hanoverians. Later crosses of Quarter Horses, Paint and Appaloosas to gain color and to give a boost to their hardiness.With a height average of 13-15 hands, they're a hardy breed with characteristics for various disciplines.

Created for use as work, carriage and leisure riding horses originally, they now serve as long-distance range horses, such as work with Park Rangers and mounted officers.

Willing and eager personalities, most are quickly trained to be bombproof and therefore trusted mounts in all lines of work; some are being seen in local show jumping competitions, others are notably used in therapeutic sessions for their calm temperaments. Harness races and endurance trials are common for the breed, as they are able to sustain an extended trot without tire. Cross-Country competitions see some of the taller Trotters, but due to their cob lineage this is still uncommon.

Despite the variety of competitions and work these horses are being seen in, they are still famously skilled as endurance racers. Many competitors have chosen Range Trotters due to their tireless work ethic, as well as the ease in which they can be trained. Many have become champions in endurance trials, and they have quickly become a sought after breed for their natural ability.

My mother spoiled me with a printer to sell badges, cards and other kinds of art prints.
My brother got me a book from my favourite author, Bernard Werber.
But my favourite gift was given to me by my husband before we went to the Christmas party. He printed a photo of me with my father and my dog-son, in a nice frame, and wrote a beautiful letter. I was almost crying, it is such a beautiful gift. It is my second Christmas without my father, and my first Christmas without my dog. He knows I miss them so dearly, he knows nothing will ever feels the same without them, but he is so supportive ane caring. I'm so lucky to have him in my life. Just like I was so lucky to have a loving father and an amazing dog. This picture is staying on my bedside table now.

My family isn't big on Christmas presents, so my dad and I try to do 'Christmas experiences' instead. This year, that meant visiting the tallest sand dune complex in North America! We had the park almost completely to ourselves, and we had a blast hiking on dunes the size of small mountains. Here's a shot of one of the small dunes, compete with car for scale. (And yes, that's one of the small ones.)

This experience is doubly meaningful for me because I've developed some pretty significant neurological issues in the past few years. These days I use a walker to get around, and most trails aren't particularly accessible. Being able to go hiking again, even if it was only for half an hour, meant the world to me. It was a reminder that my mobility issues aren't the end-all be-all of who I am, and that's the best Christmas present I could've asked for.
