I Locus
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
The I Locus, now known as Intensity, is what has recently been found to cause the Cream and Ivory range of Pheomelanin. Previously thought to be on the C locus, it is now known to be its own gene entirely. Pheomelanin is only visible on dogs with kᵇʳkᵇʳ, kᵇʳkʸ, or kyky (K Locus).
Normal Pigment in Pheomelanin ranges from a Tan/Fawn/Yellow/Gold color, seen commonly in most dog coats with agouti.
Reduced Pigment ranges from Cream to Ivory/White, causing the colors of many solid white colored dogs and even lighter pheomelanin in agouti markings.
The reduced pigment is commonly paired with Dilution (D Locus) but is not caused by diluted coats, and some markings mimic a similar color range. Currently pheomelanin is not attached to a specific locus and is only modified by the I Locus and Urajiro.
