I appreciate it! I also appreciate some of the help with cats that youve given me. Theres so many mixed sources and lack of sources for genetics with cats/dogs and it can be a pain finding anything consistent T0T

uwu' you should see what birds are like. It's so bad- every breeder uses the names differently, and most of them have no idea what the actual effects of the mutations are. There's so many "fallow" and "cinnamon" birds out there that aren't actually fallow or cinnamon mutations. It's a real mess!

BIG Oof there i can only imagine how confusing it can even be to map everything! Not even including how many birds there are. I know one set of genetics thats pretty interesting is snakes but each snake has their own set of things so its intimidating to even try and map them since its more of "normal + 12 other modifiers that stack on top of eachother"

Birds are actually very similar, species tend to each have their own patterns, but there are modifying genes that change the way they interact with light. And to be completely fair to the confusion of bird naming convention, there are multiple genes that in certain forms mimic each other. Such as the two blue genes, a type of partial albinism that removes yellow pigments, each on their own look blue but when heterozygous for each other the birds look like typical green birds.

The explanation for this I read in the bird color genetics book I've been making my through describes the genes as having a degenerative effect on each other.

Goodness gracious. It does explain why and how there are so many varieties of visuals in birds! If i had the time to learn i'd learn about so many (horses, birds, snakes, rodents- all the above).
