i have an actual fact i swear one sec

xxx bee psychology is very interesting, i've written a research paper on it before. here's a little summary: bee brains are actually really complex compared to other insects! despite having a very small brain, measuring a mere cubic millimeter—with about one million neurons, compared to humans' one billion—they are very capable and intelligent little guys. research has led away from the emphasis on "hiveminds" and instead shown that neuroplasticity, or capability of the brain to rewire itself in response to different experiences, takes place in the minds of individual bees.

xxx each bee demonstrates "abstract thought, symbolic language, advanced visual perception, neuronal neuroplastic changes, decision-making, and planning. they learn through symbolic language and transfer these memories to specific spatial abilities including the ability to find the shortest distances between many different types of scenes and flowers. they can count, sequence, and combine concepts" (credit). forager bees must "find flowers, determine their value as a food source, navigate back home, and share detailed information about their findings with others." they communicate this through an "intricately choreographed dance" (credit). they can also remember a map of multiple locations without knowing specific landmarks and "are so capable in remembering locations that when they have exhausted their current location they remember shortcuts to new ones" (credit). bees, unlike many other species, communicate through both symbolic language and pheromones: "karl von frisch, a professor of zoology in munich, germany, spent 50 years studying bee language and earned the nobel prize in 1973 for his groundbreaking research on the waggle dance." (credit).

bee fact; a honeybee will produce about 1/12 of a teaspoon of honey in its lifetime.

this does depend on where the bees live and from which flowers bees are able to forage. this means bees will collectively visit thousands of flowers to make just one teaspoon full of honey.

Prompt:

To combat wasps, Japanese honeybees will form a sphere around an invading wasp and by moving their wings as quickly as possible, they generate enough heat together to suck oxygen out of the sphere to suffocate the wasp.
This is a defense system other honeybees don't have that makes them especially resilient, though Japanese honeybees aren't farmed the way others are because they produce very little honey. However, Western bees can't survive in Japan in the wild because of Giant Hornets which they don't have a defense mechanism against.

Prompt: Bees heat and cool their own hive to keep it between 93 and 95 degrees year-round. Bees are cold-blooded and must keep their hive at a constant temperature. In cold weather, bees keep the hive warm by swarming together to generate body heat and by sealing cracks in the hive with propolis. In warm weather, the bees collect water and line up in a circle around the hive entrance. Using their wings, the bees fan the water so that it evaporates into the air. They then fan the cool air so that it circulates around the hive as a sort of central air conditioning!
