Range Trotter #2750

Postby HowlingHooves » Mon Nov 07, 2022 11:51 am

Range Trotters are the result of crossbreeding Orlov Trotters, Finnhorses, Welsh Cobs (section C & D) and Hanoverians. Later crosses of Quarter Horses, Paint and Appaloosas to gain color and to give a boost to their hardiness. With a height average of 13-15 hands, they're a hardy breed with characteristics for various disciplines.

Created for use as work, carriage and leisure riding horses originally, they now serve as long-distance range horses, such as work with Park Rangers and mounted officers.

Willing and eager personalities, most are quickly trained to be bombproof and therefore trusted mounts in all lines of work; some are being seen in local show jumping competitions, others are notably used in therapeutic sessions for their calm temperaments. Harness races and endurance trials are common for the breed, as they are able to sustain an extended trot without tire. Cross-Country competitions see some of the taller Trotters, but due to their cob lineage this is still uncommon.

Despite the variety of competitions and work these horses are being seen in, they are still famously skilled as endurance racers. Many competitors have chosen Range Trotters due to their tireless work ethic, as well as the ease in which they can be trained. Many have become champions in endurance trials, and they have quickly become a sought after breed for their natural ability.

Been a while since I made an actual trotter adopt. Stressful little while.
Give me a suggestion for some easy to make comfort food. Warm dishes are preferred, it's getting cold over here!
I also don't like brownies or lava cake, lol. Too rich for me. cx

Prompt: Zooming over here to share one of my personal recipes that I like to call one of my "dump" recipes (aka a recipe where you mainly just open up cans and dump them into a pot, and it's still delicious)! Enjoy Pandora's pumpkin soup...

      1 15oz can black beans
1 15oz can diced or crushed tomato
      2 15oz can pumpkin puree
3 cups chicken (or veggie) stock
1 cup heavy cream (or coconut milk)
      1 medium yellow onion
Seasoning with your heart: salt, pepper, cumin, curry powder, garlic powder, paprika & a dash of chili powder

Dice & soften one medium size onion in a soup pot over medium/high heat.. Once your onion is soft and slightly caramelized, add in black beans, tomato, and pumpkin and lower your heat to medium. Stir in chicken stock and season to your heart's content. I usually let this simmer for 5-10 mins to let the flavors *mingle* and add in the cup of heavy cream once it's ready to serve. I like to top mine with a sprinkle feta cheese or sour cream and pepitas on top! Add a slice of warm sourdough bread and you're golden.

Prompt: Bacon mac and cheese, photo courtesy of thecozycook.com

Easy Instant Pot Mac and Cheese, shamelessly stolen from my roommate:
One pound macaroni noodles, uncooked (roughly 3 cups - shells also work)
4 cups chicken broth
4 tablespoons butter, cut into chunks
3/4 cup of milk
3 cups of meltable cheese (mild cheddar, sharp cheddar, and parmesan are our standard mix)
Optional: Garlic, hot sauce, paprika, all to taste

Put water and noodles in Instant Pot, seal and set for "Egg" or manual set for 4 mins.
Rapid release as soon as the timer goes off.
Mix butter and milk into the cooked noodles.
By handfuls, mix in cheese until done.

You can add any protein you like- chorizo, ham, or bacon are usually winners in my house.
Be the nonsense you wish to see in the world.

Prompt: omg my mom makes a great goulash- you boil fusilli pasta (or shells or any short pasta would work) while sautéing onions and bell peppers, then use the same sauté pan after the onions and peppers are done to cook meat of your choice, we use hamburger usually, then mix everything up with a red sauce, put tons of cheese over it and put the pan in the oven briefly to melt it. It’s so yummy and warm and gooey and perfect ;;w;; the bonus is that if there’s leftovers it’s even more delicious the next day cause the sauce has been marinating the onions and bell peppers. It gets so rich and delicious
