"Many years ago, I travelled to all of the Seventeen Isles. I was young and spry back then, and had no trouble rowing my own boat across the sea. The journey took, oh, a bit less than a year, and near the end, I became quite disheartened.

"You see, I'd been out there so long, but had nothing to show for it. No exciting new discoveries, no perilous getaways, it was one of my most boring adventures yet. That is, until I landed at the southernmost island.

"It was late, the moon and stars doing all they could to fight against the night's darkness when it rose from the waves. It looked like a cat, at first, but then I saw the fins behind its ears, its thick tail that should've been on a fish's behind. The moonlight bounced off of it's scales, and in that moment, I knew true dread.

"Then it, no, he spoke. He called out into the sky, yelling 'Fight me! I know you're here!' and I thought he meant me! But then, something crashed in from the sky. A winged creature, and when the sand settled, it too was a strange cat! Before a word could be spoken by either, though, my boat let out a soft creeeak... not soft enough to not alert them though!

"Now, with two pairs of unsettling eyes locked on me, I did what anyone would and got out of there faster than a minnow in a whirlpool! The fish cat was about to dive in after me, but the bird stopped him! Can you believe that? To this day I don't know why, but I think that was the closest I've ever gotten to something not of this world."

Storyteller Jack, as the youngins call him, loves to tell the Tail of The Lion. It goes a little something like this.

"Many, many, years ago... the lands were empty. No life lived to see the light of day. But one day, the wind blew on the sand in the blazing hot desert, uncovering something that would change history.

A massive pale cat with a bushy mane was revealed. He lifted himself, inhaling the scorching desert's air. His eyes burned like fire, looking him in the eyes would burn anyone who tried. His name, was Sol.

His flaming fury caused him to stomp across lands when he was angered. His steps were so heavy, they created cracks in the lands. This created volcanoes.

The volcano erupted, lava pouring out onto the land. It burned everything in it's path. Sol mourned over the lands, they were his home. He travelled across the earth, looking for land that wasn't burned.

The first area of land was a tundra. Snow coated the lands, nothing moved. All was still, except Sol. His paws dug into the earth, scorching dirt. He heard crunching in the snow behind him. He whipped his head around, glaring at whatever was behind him.

A pure white tiger glared back. It appeared as if it was part of the snow. Sol stepped closer to her, and she swiftly swept her tail over the pawprints he had left. 'You fool,' she hissed. 'You have ruined my snow with your blazing paws! Leave immediately or your fire will be frozen!'

Sol, feeling guilty for ruining her creation, promised to make it up to her. He disappeared into the bushes, coming back with rocks and sticks. He brushed his flaming tail against the snow, pushing snow over his trail. He was careful enough not to melt any of her precious snow.

He dropped the rocks and sticks in front of her, and whispered in her ear. 'What is this you speak of a snowman? I would like to see such a thing,' she replied, curious.

She lent her snow to him, and he created a snowman. She was impressed. 'You have my forgiveness! My name is Nix of the snow. What have you come for, might I ask?'

'I come to find a new land as my home, as my desert has been burned by lava. Can you help me?' He lent out a paw, and Nix agreed to come along. She told him of a place that could be his new home, but it was extremely far away. It would take months to arrive.

They travelled to a rainforest. It was humid, and Sol was afraid he would set the rainforest ablaze. A green panther with moss hanging from her back and neck appeared through the trees.

'What have you come for, my feline travellers? My name is Folium of the trees and greens,' he said. 'We have come to find me a new home, for my desert has been burned by lava,' Sol responded. The panther stood for a moment, thinking.

'I don't have a place for you to stay, my home is flammable. I can help you find a new home, if you'd like,' he offered. Sol and Nix agreed and he tagged along.

They travelled through rivers, forests, savannahs, and marshes; who they met Flumen the leopard of the river, Silva the cerval of the forests, Diana the cheetah of the savannah, and Palus the lynx of the swamp. Together, they found a new home for Sol.

But it wasn't easy. An evil monster blocked the trail to the new desert, and it was a massive lioness. She lifted a claw and lunged for Sol's face. Nix launched a snowball into her face as Folium tied her jaw shut with vines. Flumen sprayed water in her path to trip her up, Silva grew tree branches to use as a shield for Sol, Diana raced around the lioness causing her to become dizzy, and Palus threw mud in her eyes to blind her.

As it turned out, she didn't want to hurt Sol. He was her father! He created her from the volcano. She lept at him for a hug! Her name was Magma. And so, each cat went back to their homes, and Sol lived with his daughter Magma. The end."
