The overall look of this little 'mon makes me think of wet, warm, dark, fecund environments - like swamps - and the plants that grow there. Saphgum is a type of moss that favors such environments, and the many species which make up the genus are all very efficient at regulating water. Since this pokemon is a gardener who totes around a watering can, they're really good at regulating water too! Plus, Saphgum is just a pretty word. <3

I was looking for a plant with dark foliage and I ended up finding the Blackout variety of the Heuchera plant family! Loved the look of the very dark leaves that have the deep reddish purple tone!

Now hear me out, the name Darling doesn't seem plant related but it is :DD I'm basing this name off of plants that I've found while in the Conservation Corps working on the Pacific Crest Trail! It's a trail that runs from Mexico, through the Pacific mountains, up to Canada! Darlingtonia californica! It's a mountainous pitcher plant that I saw near a cute little stream that must have been wet enough to thrive, among hills of fools gold pyrite! This was the best job of my life, and as someone who had studied in Biology it's been a fond memory for rare plant species that I've seen up close :3
