sketch practice

Postby saraphena » Wed May 04, 2022 1:22 pm

i haven't been able to draw or do much of anything recently because of my health so it's nice to get a minute to do this
since i've been mostly resting, i used my sketchbook a lot, and realized that i'm not really happy with my current style, or at the least not satisfied with how i approach art. i've been sketching a lot, and have found that making rough shapes first and not worrying too much about what i think looks wrong (i always mess it up and make it look worse when i try to make it look better) makes it easier to figure things out. before i kind of just went straight in and tried to think real hard about the placement of things, but i think things are coming more easily to me when i just let my hand do the work and not my brain.
i've also been trying to work on my anthros and humans, since i've always avoided them. because of that, i've also avoided learning the anatomy of humanoids and such, and my lack of knowledge of that anatomy is literally the reason i avoid them. it's kind of a loop now? and i'm really good at procrastinating :'3
so i'm going to (try to) do some anatomy studies of both animals and humans/anthros! i even got the chance to go to a big zoo recently since my health has been improving, so i took tons of pictures to use as reference! honestly.. i'm pretty proud that i've started to work on the things i've been avoiding! big confidence boost in getting things done

these sketches are amazing! and im so glad you're allowing yourself grace so you can get used to how you do art, cause everyone has a unique style, and I speak from experience when I saw it can be hard to work with that. I hope in the future you can get even more practice with drawing humanoids! <3<3<3
