Name: Janus
Gender: Nonbinary (they/them)
Prompt:
How does Janus wish to be perceived? Well, that's a difficult question, given that Janus does not wish to be perceived at all. They are a creature of the liminal places; the spaces in between. Janus is not an ordinary polterpup - they are capable of opening doorways between realms, allowing spirits and other entities to pass through. Most do not acknowledge Janus - they are, after all, the simple keeper of passages. But occasionally one creature will turn and look at them. The feeling of eyes against their ghastly form... it is the worst feeling in the universe. It makes the skin beneath their fur crawl. It is as if the watcher can see directly into their soul; their very essence. The part of them that is supposed to be completely private, unless willingly shared with others. But that should be their choice, and no one else's. Being well and truly perceived by another being without warning or accord is nearly enough to send them spiraling into a panic attack. They wish so fervently that they could turn invisible, but that is not in their magical wheelhouse. They only open doors and close them.
Perhaps one day, Janus will learn to tackle their fear and let someone see them for who they are. Nothing more, and nothing less. No false pretenses. No more hiding. But they aren't ready for that yet, and that's okay. For now, they simply enjoy their solipsistic solitude.
