End date: 09/30/21
Competition: The 100th Astarte Arabian! I was honored enough to be able to create this beauty and I want to know their story. Whether it be through poems, writing, art. Any and all of it. How did they get their scars? What happened to their mane and tail? What does their branding mean?

Phenotype: Dapple grey with black chimera
Eye Color: Green/blue split
Notes: Everything can pass onto the foal other than scars/branding.

Saint’s Vow the Stallion of the Nine

The Beginning

Unlike the Yunin Pass band of Astarte Arabians Sombra was the last of his kind in his homeland. Far south from continent X (Yunin Pass’s homeland) it had been a blazing summer the year Sombra was birthed. That summer became known across the land, to many different civilizations, as Lahvnek’s Bruhn {Sun’s Punishment}. At the epicenter of Lahvnek’s Bruhn lay the mid-size city Kipzerk. What had once been a lush green palace of life had been shriveled down to nothing but dry wells and cracked ground when Sombra came into existence. Located on the edge of Kipzerk was the once flourishing farm of the Quartz family. This was where this stallion had been born, but what had once been a paradise was a dying wasteland by the time he arrived. Syn Quartz, firstborn son of the Quartz family, was all that was left of the farm. With his family having given up on a failing business and city they had left taking their prized Astarte Arabians (Sombra’s mother, father, and half sister among them). Unable to give up on the only life he knew, Syn refused to abandon the ranch and Sombra, a colt promised to be his before he was born. So that was the beginning for Sombra a life tied to a dying city and a stubborn young man. Unfortunately this beginning truly was such a short start and only a glimpse of a cursed life.
Lahvnek’s Bruhn End

With little left Syn Quartz found hope with Sombra at his side, after all he saw him as a blessing. A colt born as strong as him during the sun’s punishment couldn’t be anything else. Right? Despite Syn’s deep rooted beliefs many in the city viewed this colt as a curse on the land. After Sombra’s birth Lahvnek’s Bruhn only grew harsher with what was left of sparse vegetation quickly dying. The trickle of a river that once spit the city was merely a meager creek (if one could call it that) of what it once was. When word reached the king of Kipzerk, Fynjan Chrihn, of the colt’s existence there was outrage. By the time this was known, the once black colt had began to lighten in his coat, but a stretch of black abyss remained. Little did Syn and Sombra know that their lives on the farm were numbered by an approaching ultimatum. The king needed only one look at Sombra to declare the colt a curse the finale of Lahvnek’s Bruhn and there Sombra was given a name the winds would carry far and wide. This name meant only one thing Death’s Wandering Gospel or better known in the native tongue as Reaqueen’s Suenik Vasden. With a new name to carry Sombra and his loyal owner were finding themselves openly and rather harshly rejected from Kipzerk. Just before Sombra turned one the two had found themselves banished from their home city, sent away with nothing more than harsh words. Their departure was not enough alone to bring the end to this curse on the land, but as it grew worse many citizens simply cast their blame to the birth of Sombra.
Darkness Follows

At such a young age with his only known companion and ally where could Sombra go? Having only known his family briefly, Sombra truly only saw Syn as his family, his friend. It was hard staying by Syn’s side when all he seemed to bring the man was bad fortune as they traveled. News traveled faster from the Kipzerk King than they were able to relocate. Each time they arrived somewhere new few kind faces welcomed them and they were quickly pushed out. The life of Syn and Sombra was growing increasingly more difficult to meet their needs, but a strong horse and farm raised man found some way. Along the way they both were facing challenges that left their marks given by the cruel hand of fate.[/quote]

Owner: Pandapop
Show Name: "EVS" Knights Row
Barn Name: Rowan
Gender: Stallion
Egyptian or Medieval tack: Medieval
Tack color: Silver and cobalt blue
Prompt:

Rowan was born and raised on a dairy farm for a short while as a foal. While originally docile and complacent, this dramatically changed as after his dam fell ill and passed. Rowan began to act out, displaying numerous behavioral issues that ultimately ended up being far too much for the ranch hands to handle, on top of their already demanding workload on the farm. He was auctioned (and given a brand - his auction number) and sold to a cattle ranch where he was then used for bull wrangling (gaining a few scars here and there from overzealous bulls), which curbed his restlessness and gave him drive and focus... but that too ended shortly after ranch fell into hard times and debt... so he was sold yet again, though this time, to the cavalry... and Rowan excelled here.

My sincerest apologies for taking so long to get to judging this! My goodness the names were hard for this and yet it just added to this wonderful world building that had me rather invested so congratulations!! I truly love that this fellow will go to a well thought out home <3
