Q) how did this hound find their way to your kennels? How did they adjust to their new life?
A) Orla stumbled upon my kennels in terrible state; starving, and clearly dehydrated. It was clear she had traveled long, and far. She was scared of me at first, it was obvious by her stance, and raised hackles. Her gaze was sharp, but you could see the exhaustion behind those piercing eyes.
She collapsed on the ground near my feet after our eyes locked. While I gently picked her up, and carried her back to my kennels, I thought to myself, why was she here? Maybe she was running from something.. from her past perhaps? In desperate search of somewhere new, somewhere safe, a place that she could actually call home; like I did.
It took Orla a bit to warm up to me. But it wasn't too long till I earned her trust. I provided her with all the bare necessities and more; water, food, a warm bed, treats and toys galore. And as she started to get more comfortable, I was also able to offer her affection--something she was clearly not used to. Which she eagerly accepted, and was the beginning of true companionship.
