they live at the bottom of a lake or deep river- the bright markings on the back can be "dimmed", and the coloration on the belly and the back markings used as both a dazzler to stun prey, and that alongside the hood are used to ward off any potential predators. Not venomous, but mildly poisonous, and their teeth are pretty sharp!
