Maltese Retrieving Hounds are a cross between the Pharaoh hound and the Labrador Retriever. Originally bred to hunt in packs, they are mostly used in shows and sport hunts nowadays.

Toy: Champ's favorite toy is a little stuffed bear, it's dark brown and made of a raggedy, curly type of furry material that's hard to brush through as the toy has seen some better days, though it's very well loved. The bear is a deep, dark brown in color with black beady eyes that shine dark brown in the light, and a little sewn-in nose that is also black. He has little pawpads in a slightly darker brown that are also sewn on and a stubby little puffball tail. He has a white star marking on his chest and around his neck is a pine green and navy blue plaid bow, it's a bit torn and frayed and curls up almost unidentifiable, but it is his most prized toy as it used to belong to his mother when she was a puppy and was passed down to him. The bear's name is Grant, and Champ takes him everywhere he goes, making sure to never lose his favorite stuffed animal. When Sam puts him in the wash, Champ waits patiently until he's nice and clean again and is always excited to be reunited with his old friend, holding him between his paws when he naps and even carrying him in his mouth all day long when he's out and about.
