prompt; dorothea grabbed the prepared ingredients and poured them nicely into the chilled canister. she inserted the blending spatula, and checked to make sure it was fixed correctly into place. dotty then placed the lid on the canister and put the stabilising ring in the wood bucket.

dorothea had been making hand-made ice cream using the families secret recipe and heirloom ice cream churner since she was a kid. first taught by her grandmother, it was a common family bonding activity.

dorothea lifted the chilled canister and placed it into the bucket, making sure it attached to the cone in the center. she attached the hand crank to a hole in the side of the top of the bucket and placed it across to attach again at the other side.

dorothea was an adult - living alone, busy with her own personal life - so she saw her family less and less as the years went by. eventually, her grandma passed away, and she inherited the churner (after tons of discussion and augments with other family members - everyone wanted the important heirloom).

dorothea began to pack the side of the bucket with ice and a layer of rock salt at the top. she then adjusted the whole contraption, so she grab a better hold on it, and began to churn - moving the ice, evenly distributing the chill.

living alone got to dotty; she's a family orientated person (one of the reasons she also really wanted the churner) and missed the comfort of familiar faces. whenever she missed her grandma, or her other family members, she pulled out the old churner and made some ice cream. it always brought her back to when she was a kid, making ice cream with the family.

churning the ice cream was definitely harder than dotty last remembered, so it took her a little over an hour of breaks and multitasking watching tv to finally get the thick texture needed. when the churning was done, she unattached the crank and cleared away the ice and salt to pull out the chilly canister filled with ice cream. dotty scraped the sides clean and removed the lid and blending spatula to marvel at her ice cream; a vanilla flavour with a soft serve texture.

there is one thing that dorothea wants to pass on to her own children; the family recipe and heirloom ice cream churner. making ice cream alone was an escape for her, but with other people it was a heartwarming (and brain-freeze inducing) experience that always left her with memories she never wanted to forget.

Vega knows every detail about her grandparents
life, their stories as vivid and alive as if her
grandparents had told them. Yet, Vega never
knew her extended family. Their legacy has been
lovingly retold by Vega's mother. Everything from
childhood stories and struggles, to jokes and
recipes. The latter would prove especially relevant
on this day; Vega's Birthday.

On this day, every year, Vega asks for her favourite:
the family classic ice cream. It's a simple variation
of a regular ice cream recipe that through its
simplicity is wildly popular with absolutely everyone.
Four simple ingredients: sweetened condensed milk,
berry mix frosting, whipping cream, and a dash of
vanilla extract.

It's churned just like regular ice cream, making it
ridiculously simple. Vega's grandparents always
topped it off with strawberry sauce and fresh fruits,
a habit that Vega has enjoyed continuing.

And when she inevitably wants a second serving,
Vega simply chimes 'Serve up one for grandma as well!'
