Looks like someone came to visit Herrick for the holidays! Meet Sydney, his younger sister - are they biologically related? Who knows! Do they care? No!
Sydney is just as studious as her older brother, and just as socially awkward, in her own way. However, unlike Herrick, Sydney is a huge skeptic! The Scully to his Mulder, she believes that there is a scientific explanation for everything.
Sydney is very thoughtful, perceptive, and caring, but often has trouble outwardly expressing these feelings. She can seem a little cold and standoffish at first, but once someone gets to know her, they quickly realise that this is a result of her social awkwardness and matter-of-fact nature. She can be a little uncomfortable with hugs and physical contact at first, but will gradually become more open to the prospect as she gets to know someone.
Sydney hates hot weather, but isn't particularly fold of cold weather either - she'd rather be snuggled up by the fire with a good book than out sledding or roughhousing in the snow. Unlike her brother, she is very much not a morning lambie, and "don't talk to me before I've had my coffee" is a likely thing to hear after she's just woken up. Also unlike her brother, Sydney has a very spunky and eccentric fashion sense! She loves owls and will wear anything with owl print on it.
Sydney is currently studying at University, hoping to become a biophysicist. She works at a little coffee shop called 'the Busy Bean' to help fund her studies. It is frequented by many other university students, who come there for their morning coffee and often stay to study or work on their laptops. Sydney is known for her fantastic espresso art in the university community. She practically lives on coffee herself, but is very picky about it - she knows good coffee and won't settle for anything less! Her love of coffee and Herrick's love of tea often lead to the classic 'coffee-or-tea' debate, which happens at least once a year.
She comes up to visit Herrick and his eclectic little family during school breaks and on the holidays. When she visits, she always brings gifts for everyone, especially Tera! She usually gives Tera art supplies or books about art. Herrick and Sydney have a tradition of getting each other rather passive-aggressive gifts - Herrick usually gives Sydney books on paranormal activity and folklore, or even caffeinated tea, whereas she gives him books about hard science and debunking the paranormal, and sometimes a bag of coffee beans.
The kinds of dreams that Sydney brings usually involve books in one way or another.
