Meet Mimi

. .Upon arriving at the tents on either side of the gravel road, you are approached by a young woman who hands you a waxy apple, nodding solemnly to you before heading past you to greet more newcomers. You sigh, taking a small bite and relishing in the warmth it brings to your starving stomach, watching as other helpers rush about and get ready for the rescues. You look to your left, shocked when you see a young mare staring right back, and she nods curtly in your direction. You nod back, daring to approach her as she waves off those standing beside her, ushering them to get back to work.
Image

. ."See you've got a snack, thank you for coming. It's been a bit tense here, and considering the circumstances I cannot blame them," she grunts, glancing toward the two she waved off previously, "Be safe during your search, and if you need to come back to collect yourself please do so. A few others, along with myself will be here waiting, so be sure to tell us about your search if you come back."

[list]username: blackhoeses
errps included: King of the Forest~ Buck
prompt number: 1
prompt response: Buck and his rider had split off from the main search party following a separate side trail. It had looked like there were some hoof prints on this path so the search party had decided someone should check it out. Buck's rider had volunteered them as they were getting a little overwhelmed by all the people in the group. Buck moved at a steady pace down the path doing his best to not let the dim forest, strange sounds, and the scene of foreboding coming from the approaching storm affect him. He tried to hum his favorite tune in his head to distract himself.

Just then something small dashed on to the path, Buck slid to a stop throwing his head up in surprise and fear. Only to realize that it was a little bunny who had hoped across the path to nibble on the plants at the edge of the path. Buck let out a huge sigh and unclenched, his rider chucking patted his neck. He was kind of embarrassed that a little bunny had startled him so much. He resolved to himself not to let anything else as silly as that startle him.

They set off down the path once more and saw many interesting things. Like a fox, a bunch of dry leaves in its mouth, disappearing into a hole. Buck slowly got used to the atmosphere of the forest, but he soon became worried they had not seen another horse in over an hour. He was positive that one of the lost horses would not have strayed this far from the group by choice. But his rider showed no signs of wanting to turn back yet so Buck kept moving steadily on. He kept his ears moving listing for the sound of horses and for any danger.

After another thirty minutes of steady walking, Buck heard another animal grazing. He pricked his ears in excitement, but did not let out a sound just in case it was not a horse. His rider, noticing a change in Buck, slowed him a little and went on the alert. As they walked down the path, it slowly got brighter and the pair came to the edge of a small clearing that a giant tree had made when it had fallen. And there in the center of the clearing grazing was a group of deer.

As Buck and his rider came to a stand still at the edge of the clearing, almost holding their breath. A stag with a mighty rack lifted his head and looked right at them. A few of the other deer lifted their head to look at the horse and his rider but seemed to dismiss them as not a threat. And went back to grazing, only the stag remained interested. He one cautious step at a time approached the pair. Stopping a mere foot away from them, the stag's ears fully up and his deep brown eyes studying them.

Buck cautiously stretched out his neck and nose. Gently blowing at the stag to greet him and the most amazing thing happened. The stag took one step closer and stretched out his neck to gently reach out his own muzzle in greeting. For a few beautiful and peaceful moments they stood there. Buck's rider holding their breath, Buck breathing in the strange scent of the stag. And the stag just standing their touching noses with Buck being mysterious in a way only a truly wild thing could be.

And then the strains from Selena Gomez song Round & Round started to play. The stag and the rest of the deer darted off in the woods, their tails flipped up so you could see the white underside. Buck's rider let out a big sigh of disappointment and answered the phone. It was the group leader who had found the lost horses and they should head back and follow the main trail as soon as possible. Mehine while Buck's ears drooped in disappointment, he had been loving the moment with the stag. But on hearing his rider say "We will head your way as fast as we can. How are the lost horses looking?"

Buck immediately cheered up and slowly turned around as not to startle his still talking rider. He set out a fast but smooth walk until his rider was done on the phone. Then the pair moved as fast as they could down the path while still being safe. While they moved Buck worked hard to memorize every monomer back at the clearing with the stag. It was just so magical, he never wanted to forget it.

1,021 words

As neo walked along the barely trodden path made by the other horses and riders he felt a sense of being watched. With a flick of her big white ears he tried to put it out of his mind. After all if there really was something watching him and the others, they probably wouldnt show themselves right? Perhaps whatever it was would be as socially anxious as he was?
Now neo was just being silly. It was proven to him that no one thought the way he did about things. If he kept down this mental path he would surely start to feel I'll again. Whenever he worried too much his belly began to hurt very badly so much so that there were times he could barely stomach food. The thought of putting something in his mouth would make him retch.
"Ok, ok" he thought to himself, "theres nothing to be scared of. Its just the six of us here and nothing else!"
Several hours had passed before the horses decided to stop for the night. Neo hated that they had to stop. If he wasnt running in his physical body his mind surely would carry him away!
Neo was tied to a fallen tree with blue to his left and snickerdoodle to his right. He was glad to not be on the outer edges of the group and even more grateful to have someone to talk to. Snickerdoodle told them joke after joke as the night went on. Every once in awhile they would get scolded for being too noisy by the riders, this made blue feel guilty. She hated doing anything wrong and immediatly felt as if she were a bad horse. Whenever this happened though snickerdoodle would do his best to make her smile.
Eventually snickerdoodle fell asleep to the flickering lights of the fire the riders had made. This gave neo a better chance to talk to blue more privatly. Neo felt silly as he told her about his feelings of being watched earlier that day. Blue however didnt laugh at him or try to reasure him that there was jothing to worry about instead she got deathly quiet. Had he upset the mare? He hadnt meant to. After a few moments he apologized to her. Blue jolted her head to look at him. Thats not why she had gone quiet. She revealed she too had the feeling of being watched while they traveled.
Neo immediatly felt his stomach lurch. Its a good thing horses cant be sick because he knew if he could his oats would be flowing out of him as soon as those words left blue's mouth.

~snap~ a twig broke

Blue and neo both threw their heads back to put tension on their reins and let out fearful whinies. The sudden commotion caused the other horses to act out as well. The riders reluctantly arose from their slumber to access any dangers. When the riders noticed however that there was nothing out of the ordinary they started to calm the horses down.
After everything had settled down a bit the riders returned to their cozy spots near the fire and the horses went back to sleep. Neo however knew he wouldnt be able to sleep a wink and stayed up throughout the night.

As the morning sun arose into view and birds chirped, neo blinked his eyes awake. Groggy from getting very little sleep he looked around. He hadnt meant to fall asleep but I guess his body knew what was best ffor him.
They travelled many miles along the path neo and blue were trodding side by side when something rattled in a bush next to the path. Neo stopped frozen in fear. How could he ignore what he had just seen when he knew it must have been following them since the day before? No neo would not budge an inch despite his riders incessant ressurances and spurs in his side.
The bush continued to rattle and neo's mind felt both fast and slow at the same time.
The rider finally realizing that the bush was moving peared into the woods. Thats when the creature finally appeared to them.
Its head was small with eyes on the sides, like a horses was. It mouth was a strange shape with an orange color to it. Its body was a little larger in width but was a strange mixture of yellow and gray. The feet were flat with an odd webbing that made a slapping sound with every step. Neo made eye contact with the creature when it finally decided to speak....

Quack!

Neo looked at the animal curiously. It didnt look like it could eat him...yet...maybe when its older. But until then it wouldn't matter. The strange animal waddled over to neo and began rubbing its head on his legs. The small creature was surprisingly soft.
As neo was examining the animal his rider and several others had burst into laughter. The creature that had been scaring neo and blue was just a little duckling! It must have been following them because it imprinted on neo when they stopped at a pond for a drink.
The rider picked up the duckling and put it in a small satchel to keep it safe. The duckling was content with being inside the bag and even more happy that it could now keep up with neo, his new mother.
Neo however still wasnt too sure about the duckling. However he didnt have much of a choice since his rider had decided to keep it.
Eventually he grew to attached to the little booger and the rider even attached the satchel to neo's neck so that it was up against him.
They traveled together for several days before the rider decided it was time for them to say goodbye. They rode to a strange building and the rider took the duckling inside. When the rider returned the duckling was gone.
A strange sense of sadness washed over him, it didnt last long though. One thing was for sure though. Neo would always remember his special friend.

Re: Refreshments

Postby blackhoeses » Thu Nov 26, 2020 9:17 pm

Jane was super excited for this whole rescue mission thing. She was so excited to wear the neon, reflective bridle, polo, breast band, and saddle pad set that had just been chilling in her tack box. She just wasn't so sure about this out in the woods, roughing it thing they were going to have to do. And while she wanted to help those lost horses. She half wondered if her owner could have just donated some of her old stuff instead of dragging her away from her warm stall.

As they pulled into the stable that was the starting point for the search for the lost horse Jane peered out the window. Trying to catch a glimpse of the other horses tack and blankets. After parking the trailer Jane was unloaded and led around to stretch her legs. She arched her neck in pride, she was wearing her favorite purple traveling blanket and boots. While they were one of her plainer prices they still had bedazzled flowers on them and the blanket had some fuchsia piping along the edge.

Jane was a little put out that no one really paid attention to her and all the horses and their stuff was so plain and utilitarian. She just could not understand why they were serious about the whole rescue thing. Jane gave a mental shrug and decided to just ignore these strange people and horses. All too soon they were headed back to the trailer to wait for the next day and the next party to head out.

The next morning dawned cold and crisp, Jane was not thrilled to have her beauty sleep interrupted. But her poor owner did not look any better then she felt and heck she was even wearing plain clothes with only a small gem heart on her sweatshirt in a normal shade of peach. As Jane munched on her favorite high-energy grain mix. Her owner tacked her up in her neon gear, drinking her second mug of coffee to wake up. As soon as Jane was done with her berkfest and her own was done with her coffee. They set off to the meet up point.

As they stood there waiting for things to start. Jane listened to the other horse talk about what to expect. There was even a search and rescue horse that was swapping stories. She wanted to pin her ears back in disgust at what she was hearing. It was one thing to go into a ring and get dirty performing. And a gentle hack around the fields next to the stable was ok. This whole over rough ground, through dangerous areas and creepy forest. Was sooooo not her thing, what was her owner thinking? Was this like the one time she wanted to try jumping. Just a fade, Jane really hoped so. Or if this was going to be a new thing maybe her owner would get another horse. Which would be perfect or wait maybe not this horse would need to be everything opposite of herself. She shook her head to get read of these weird thoughts.

Finally they were moving down the path and word had come back, it was to be the hardest part of the trail. Jane trudged along, she could not see why some of the horses thought this place was creepy. Had they never seen some of the underside of the small town grandstands. She snorted in frustration as it was getting late and now to top it off they were having to pick their way over giant, ugly, sharp rocks. Ok so maybe they weren't that bad but still why couldn't these lost horses have picked a nice clearing or even an old abandoned farm. Then word came back that a cave had been found and there were horses in there. Jane perked her ears at this news and thought to herself, "finally we can rescue those horse and head straight home."

As they came to the front of the cave some of the horses were ready to bravely plunge into the cave, some were willing to make a go for whatever reason, whether it be to please their person or prove themselves and some just did not have the courage to go into such a scary place. Jane was not that excited about having to go into the cave, but she had been in tight and dark spots before. These horses really need to get out to some shows. Thankfully her owner decided they would stay outside to set up a tent and help with the other horse that were not able to go in.

Jane stood relaxing and waiting for something to do, when she heard a panicked whiny. Only it was the quietest whiny she had ever heard, it reminded Jane of the shy little girls at the birthday parties she sometimes went to as a unicorn. Jane looked around but realized that no one else had heard the whiny. She preeked her ears and strained to hear it again. And there it was, why couldn't anyone else hear it.

Someone really needed to go help that poor horse. Jane made up her mind she would do it. She was tied up though, thank goodness that silly mare Aly at her barn had taught her how to slip out of her halter. She had never thought in a million years that she would do something like this. Jane hesitated for a moment if she did this her pretty halter would get all muddy. But then she heard it again that whinny. Without another thought she pulled her head out of her halter and headed straight into the cave.

Jane's owner was frantic, she had come to cheek on the mare and all she had found was her halter laying there in the mud. Jane would never leave her gear laying in the mud, she was too much of a clothes horse to do something like that. Don't get the wrong idea she was sweet and great around kids. But she was a bit of a diva, just then another group of sheachers came out of the cave and there was Jane leading a small group of horses one stallion in particular was right at her hip. Jane's owner went rushing up to her fussing over her making sure she was ok.

Jane's owner listened in stunned silence as the group told her what had happened. Her Jane had marched right into the cave, she had proceeded to go down a tunnel that everyone had thought was too small for any of the horses to fit through. The only reason she had been spotted was her neon-reflective gear. A few rescuers followed her; they lost her a few times but were able to find her due to her gear. She led them on a merry chase through the cave system.

Eventually they came to a spot where some stones had fallen and were blocking the path. When one of the rescuers went for a closer look, they realized there were a few horses on the other side. The poor little group looked like they had given up hope until the light shown on them. There was however one pale stallion that let out a horse whinny. Jane whickered in response, which revived the other horse even more.

It took a bit but soon the group had moved enough stones for the horse to squeeze out one at a time. Jane stood on the other side seeming to encourage whatever horse was coming through at the time. The last one out was the pale stallion. He immediately came up to Jane and greeted each other like long-lost friends. Jane had then turned around and started to head out of the cave. Making the humans have to scramble to catch up. Jane never went so far or so fast that anyone horse or human was left behind.

As Jane's owner stood there absorbing it all, she looked at Jane with what turned out to be a light dun tobiano. Heck, he might even be a mushroom. But that's besides the point the two stood side by side like a pair of good friends. Jane's owner started to think maybe she should try and take him home with them. Those thoughts kept going through her mind as the vet checked him over and said he was fine other than being a little dehydrated and seeming to be hoarse from calling out for so long. Jane's owner volunteered to lead the stallion back. So the trio headed down the path back to the barn.

Ah another day on the search and rescue team! Ghost thought as she took a big breath of the cool morning air. The team had only been out for 24 hours and ghost was starting to feel it in her body. The only thing that could make this day any better would be some oats! As if right on que ghost's rider came over to her with an outstretched palm. On their palm was the delicious small flakes that made ghost the happiest horse on the plant, or at least it did in her mind. She happily nibbled them up but was also careful not to nip the rider. You know what they say; dont bite the hand that cares for you! Right? Pretty sure thats how it goes.
Ghost's rider began saddling up along with the other riders and horses. Ghost braced herself as the rider adjusted the saddle; feeling a little sore on her underbelly. But she wouldnt let them mnow she was in any discomfort, she loved being in the outdoors and knew if they thought she wasnt ok they would make her go back to the stables. Ghost snorted at the thought of going back when she had the perfect oppertunity to be out in the open.
As they began moving forward it became more apparent to ghost that something might be very wrong. Every so often she would stop to look at her belly and he legs would quiver. The rider thought it was odd how often she was stopping to look around but didnt think much of it at the time.
Ghost wasnt used to having a rider with her, in fact it was pure luck that this one was able to do it. Normally she would shy away and if they continued to pursue their efforts she would buck and kick until they gave up. This rider however had been coming to her stable since she moved to emberoza stables. They had formed a bond that had yet to be broken by the inevitable human cruelty. Or at least thats what she was expecting. The team continued to travel until the night air was so thick and dark that they had to stop. Unlike the night before, this night the air felt heavy; it would likely rain. Ghost flicked her ears with annoyance, she hated the rain especially when it creeped down her legs like snakes. Not only would it rain but you could hardly see anything even if it were right up to your face! The other horses didn't fancy that as much but ghost felt a calm from not being able to see. She knew she would have to put all her faith and trust inti her rider.
Ghost had to admit to herself at least that she probably wasnt the most qualified horse on the team. Then again the others weren't much better, most were probably just over 2 or 3 years old. They had yet to really experience a lot of things. Oh well. Ghost would keep her head held high through whatever came her way.
The next morning however was the toughest one yet for ghost. Her legs ached from walking and the bitterly cold rain which had turned to hail. Ghost could hardly turn her head without shots of pain running through her body from her head to her tail. And that's another thing. Her tail and mane were almost completely stiff from the cold rain freezing it!
Ghost was starting to wish she had never come on this stupid rescue search. Sure she loved to be outside but at what cost to her health and sound of mind? Would she go crazy before they found what they were trying so desperatly to find? A thousand thoughts ran through her mind; all of which were bitter.
Finally the riders awoken and started their day by feeding the horses their breakfast. Ghost refused to drink the water from the makeshift trough they had discovered. All it was really was a log that had fallen over from lightning. The strike had made a perfect crevase for water to collect in. Looking at the water ghost snorted and stomped her hooves. Its filthy! With leaves, dirt, and dead bugs floating on top. No she would not be drinking from that thing.
The riders gathered round to collect their rations of horse food and gave it to the horses. Some nice yummy oats and apples.
Ghost's rider showed her the food with an outstretched palm. Ghost sniffed it for a moment before giving a winnie and turning away. She was feeling too poorly to eat. Still the rider insisted. This time holding out the apples; red, green, and even her favorite red galla! Still ghost turned away once again.
The rider now senced that something might be wrong. Ghost could never refuse an apple. Still ignorant of how the tole the wheather was having on her the rider insissted once more that ghost eat the apples. Ghost looked at the crunchy morsels then to the rider, the apples, then back to the rider. Finally she gave in. The apples were crunching away on her molars as the other horses noticed her hesitance and tried to get in on her share of the food. She felt too weak to care and the apples and oats were gone in moments. The rider however did not see this and thought she had changed her mind and ate them herself.
Next it was time to get ready! Ghost stomped in protest as the halter and bit were placed, it pressed down on her still stiff fur and caused an irritable pain. Her saddle was next and as the rider tightened the belt ghost could take it no longer! The belt had chaffed her for the last three days and enough was enough. Ghost stubbornly layed down.
The rider knew something was very wrong and took off her gear. The rider talked to the others for what seemed forever and finally came over to her and lead her closer to the fire. The rest of the horses and riders continued on the trail. At first ghost was confused but then she didnt care.
Ghost and her rider stayed their for the day to warm up and get some rest. By the next morning ghost was feeling much better and was able to catch up with the others again.
Ghost wasnt too dissapointed in herself. This was how she was able to cope with her lake of experience.

1,058 words

- Beau

From day 1 the search and rescue party sent out lennox knew he had to watch out for this mare! Her hotshot temper threatened to go off with ever step her made. Walking too closely to her? Hed get nipped. Talking to her? Nipped. Trying to help her when she stumbled on a tree root? Nipped extra hard. Lennox felt he could never please the black and white mare. Still he let her knew every morning that if she needed anything he would be there to help out. Beau eventually towards the end of the journey had calmed down enough to accept his help when needed and to let him inside her personal life even. She was really starting to come around to him and he hoped that after the rescue team had found what they were looking for, their relationship wouldnt go back to the way it was at the begining. Not that he had any romantic feelings for her! That would be crazy.
~~~~~~~~~~~
- Starburst
Lennox knew that the mare star had had a rough past and might need a little extra help making the journey. Similarly to neo, a stallion back home, star was incredibly skittish and fearful of just about everything. Lennox couldnt understand her pain exactly but he tried his best to distract her from the scary things and if he couldnt do that he would help her to see the things she was afraid of werent all that spooky. At one point star had become comfortable enough with him to start making jokes back! Lennox was glad to see her smile and laugh. After all their life wasnt so bad and they got to spend a ton of time outside! Starburst loved being outside even on rainy days. Lennox and star talked about what she wanted in her life and he found out that she had once gone for a ride on a beach. The way she explained the ride sounded so lovely that lennox felt as if he were there! He was glad to have made another friend.
~~~~~~~~~~~

- Wreckless

Just as her name implies wreckless was extreamly wreckless! She took every and any oppertunity she could to push the limits of safety. Lennox watched from afar knowing she would only become indignant if he tried to help. After all he wasnt her sire who was he to tell her what to do? No instead he just did his best to make her stunts less dangerous. If she wanted to walk along the edge of a cliff; Lennox would be there to kick rocks ahead that might be slippery out of her way. She wanted to jump over a fallen tree? He would use his hooves to knock any sharp twigs away. It was unlikely that wreckless had noticed his efforts in keeping her safe but that was alright. His breaking point came when she nipped beau in an attempt to play chase but instead of playing along beau got mad! She chased the younger mare away and in the process cut her leg on a sharp rock that had gone unnoticed to all. After that lennox gave her a talk and the crazy horse stopped involving others in her antics. Her behavior did not stop completely however

- camille

Camile caught lennox's eye from the moment he saw her. Her honey colored coat caught his eye and despute being surrounded by other mares Lennox felt like they were the only ones in existance. At first lennox was a tad shy but as camille noticed his comfortablilty and kindness towards the other mares she came to him. She wasnt feeling frightened or angery, no she said she just wanted a walking companion. Lennox was pleasantly surprised by her forwardness and returned it by sharing that if the others needed him he would go to them but that he would return to walk with her. Lennox wasnt onehundred percent sure that his feelings were mutual but he did feel like she was showing interest enough that the possibility wasnt out of the question. By the end of their journey together camille had invited him to come to her part of the meadows anytime he pleased. He was rather inclined to accept this offer and hoped something more would come from their friendship.

- star

Star was fairly new to emberoza stables so Lennox didnt have much to go off of other than the things she told him on the trip. Lennox wanted to get to know her as best he could do that she felt less alone back at home. At first star was hesitant; thinking he was just trying to get information so that he could somethow sabotage her life. But eventually his character shone through to her and she could see he was a genuinly good stallion. Star hadnt had many friends at her old stable. If you could call it that. It was just her and a few other horses- hardley enough to pull a carriage. Once Lennox got her talking about her life he could hardly get her to stop. He had to make her a few times though as she would get short of breath very easily with all her excitment. Lennox thought she was a good, hardworking mare and was glad she had opened up to him. Just like so many other had before.

- Bailey

Oh bailey! The drama queen of the rescue team. She should have been named diva lennox thought. It didnt matter what was going on, bailey had to be the center of attention! She took a particular liking to Lennox who felt as if he was being tailed the entire time. He tried to ignore her so as to make her lose interest. If he was getting a drink of water she would do something silly to try to get his attention. If he was talking eith the others she would interrupt to tell him about her life. She even threw a fit when he was tied up between Camille and starburst. As if he had a choice who he was tied by? Lennox felt a great relief when the journey ended that he would never have to spend that much time with Bailey again. She however cried out to him as they went their seperate ways that she loved him. How strange he thought.

Bailey wouldnt give up she knew she had to be lead horse! But that grass-eater maple keeps pushing her back and denying her ideas! I have good ideas too! The thought to herself
It all started when lennox got injured, he was the leader the first few days but after twisting his hoof needed to take a step back. Lennox had asked maple, a stallion from hawthorn stables to take over for him. Bailey however felt responsible for lennox's injury. She had distracted the stallion while he was walking; i guess she was just took beautiful for him to look away! Anyhow he kicked a stone that looked lighter than it really was and twisted his front left leg. The other horses on the rescue kept saying it wasnt her fault and that she had nothing to do with it but Bailey knew the truth! No she would lead them all to the lost horses and back to safety single hooved! It was her destiny. Maybe then lennox would stop talking to that ditsie minded camille. Ugh she made her coat boil.
Maple however was determined to keep her from her destiny. When Bailey tried to lead the group down a path he protested saying that the path ahead would be marshy and someone else might get hurt too. Bailey felt her face get hot as she told him she knew what she was doing and insisted to go her way. Maple looked her dead in the face with his dark brown eyes. "Lennox put me in charge for a reason. Now i am going to lead us in the direction that will keep us all alive. Is that alright with you or should we ask Lennox?" Bailey jolted her head up. How dare maple even think to bother lennox with such a silly question. Surely he would agree with bailey, it was as if they shared the same mind. Wasnt that obvious enough for maple? With a snort maple and bailey trotted to the back of the group to ask Lennox who should lead the way.
"You of coyrse maple. I asked you for a reason. You know these parts better than any of the horses from emberoza stables. Is something wrong?" Lennox replied. Maple looked smugly to Bailey who looked like some horse had eaten all her oats. She shook her head and lashed the flies buzzing around her tail.
"No nothing is wrong dearest. Just a little miscommunication." She smiled sweetly at the stallion. Lennox however did not share in her sentiment, maple noticed this with a twang of sympathy. It did not however make him want to let Bailey lead. Instead he trotted back to the front of the group and went down the path he had chosen.
Bailey frowned "he left without me!" She muttered under her breath. Quickly she rejoined maple at his side.
"It doesnt seem like Lennox trusts your judgment" came the scathing remark from maple. Bailey rolled her eyes and tried to ignore him but she knew it would be a long trip with him getting under her coat like this.
"Mind your own bussiness foal-kicker!" She neighed at him while she whipped her head around to nip him on the shoulder. Maple gave a surprised winnie and glared at her.
"Just because you are in love with a stallion who doesnt see you doesnt mean you can take it out on me. And for the record I have never, not even once, kicked a foal. I hqve however nipped a mare who deserved it." Maple turned his head to give bailey a nip on the shoulder as she did to him but Bailey moved too quickly.
"How dare you!" She replied indignation making her voice quiver.
Thats when another horse strode up to them and pushed their way through.
"Knock it off you too." The newcomer turned to Bailey
"You should feel ashamed of yourself you know that? Here we are trying to rescue lost horses and all you can think about is your pride! Well we will see how much good that does you at the back of the group! Lennox chose maple so we should respect his decision and show some respect to maple." The new horse, bailey now recognized as beau, now turned to maple with a soure look on her black and white face.
"However I may ask lennox to reconsider his decision given everything ive witnessed in the last few hours. And maple, you should be more careful otherwhise your temper is going to get you in a lot of trouble one of these days. You will join bailey at the back of the group as well." As the words left her mouth maple looked like he would protest but instead he kept his mouth shut and started making his way to the back. Casting sideways glances at Bailey as he went.
Based off of beau's report Bailey and maple stayed at the back and beau took over as leader. The two bickering horses were forced to walk side by side. Maple turned to her after several hours of walking.
"You know your not the only one trying to prove themselves to a stallion." Maple gestured with a nod of his head towards snickerdoodle who was laughing and joking around with another mare in the group, this time Bailey did not recognize the horse.
Maple looked longingly at the chestnut appaloosa. Maple only wanted to win his affection.
Bailey felt a bit guilty but shook her head of it. Why should she care about his feelings and affairs? No she continued on in silence. If she couldnt be leader she was glad he couldnt either. Maybe ut was selfish of her but once again she reminded herself that she cared not for maple and his problems. She looked at Lennox for approval and comfort but was given none what so ever. In fact he didnt look at her at all. Lennox was too enthralled in his conversation with camille.
