Prompt:Waking up after her afternoon nap, Ryker felt full of energy. It was time to explore her new home and meet new lions, hopefully making some friends. Ryker grinned as she strolled through the grasslands, her mane swaying gently in the wind. Having spotted a lion in the distance, her pace sped up. She was excited to meet them.
Ryker bounded up to the lion from behind, yelling at him a ‘hello!’, except her toungue butchered the pronunciation, resulting in a gargled sounding “Eylloh”. The lion jumped, turning around quickly. He seemed surprised, and then scared. Ryker tried walking up to him, only to find he backed away slightly with every step she took. Ryker stood still, tilting her head in confusion as her tongue blew in the wind. The lion stared back at him, looking at her, then her nose, then her tongue. She opened her mouth to try and speak, but the lion took several steps back.
Looking mildly terrified, the lion backed up slowly, then more quickly. He spluttered out an apology, although Ryker couldn’t understand why he was apologising. “S-sorry mate. I’ll leave, i didn’t mean to bother ya”. And with that the lion turned and fled, running faster than Ryker had ever seen anyone run before.
Finding the event a little strange, Ryker shrugged it off and continued on her stroll, not thinking too much about it. She next came across a lioness, who was drinking from the other side of the river. Eager to say hi, Ryker lept into the water and began swimming towards her. Finding it quicker to swim fully submerged, Ryker put her head underwater. She watched the lioness from beneath the surface, practicing her best friendly smile before she said hello.
Ryker lept out of the water, still grinning. “Eyloow” She shouted. She had hoped her greeting would come out as an actaul ‘hello’ that time, but she was happy with the progress she had made on the word. The lioness however, clearly didn’t appreciate her best efforts at speech. Having just seen a strange creature covered in riverweed jump out of the water, she had jumped back and had run without even looking back behind her.
Ryker stood there in the water, her mane and fur dripping wet. She stared out at the horizon, watching the lioness disappear into the distance. She looked at herself in the water. “Ih jusht waanth thhreehnds” she said to herself slowly. She couldn’t see why the lions were afraid of her. She used to have no problem making friends back on her home planet- so why was socialising so difficult now? Giving up, Ryker wondered over to some shrubs and sat in the shade alone. She watched a group of lions in the distance and sighed.
All she wanted was to make friends with the neighbours.
