Caelum had seen it. She wasn't sure what it was, not the first time anyways, but she was eyeing Apricus in her peripheral, curious why he wasn't showing off his mane not that it'd fully grown in, when she saw him just, disappear. He was gone. She padded over to look and see if maybe he'd just slipped away and she hadn't caught him, but he was nowhere to be seen. Her friends called her over and she stowed it in the back of her mind.

The second time was not so easily forgotten. She'd been in the middle of hunting a gazelle that had strayed too far from it's herd- and had nearly caught it too!- when out of nowhere, Apricus fell on top of her, squashed her and letting her prey get away.

"What the Thread was that?!" She yelled as soon as he was off her and she could breathe again. "There was no one around, you were nowhere around, HOW DID YOU FALL FROM THE SKY AND LAND ON ME???"

Apricus looked at the ground with a face like he was very much considering disappearing again just to avoid this conversation.

"I thought I was going crazy when I saw you just disappear that time but I can't have hallucinated you falling on me so explain it now!"

Apricus jerked his head up with a fearful expression. "Do you think anyone else could have seen me? I thought no one was looking!"

Caelum narrowed her eyes. "No one else seemed to notice. Why does this worry you so much? What did you do?"

Apricus looked her straight in the eyes, not a flicker of hesitation in his face and no facial ticks to give his words doubt. " There are other worlds, *other universes* out there. With different lives and different gods, they have all kinda of tools and magics and ways of life so different than ours that I hardly recognized them as lions at first!" His eyes widened in wonder, awe, and a hint of wistfulness.

"I wish you could have seen them. My ability lets me Go there, I call it Going. I've been practicing to Go at will instead of at random, but I'm still wokring on arriving in the right location, as you unfortunately noticed."

Then the panicked look returned. "But you can't tell anyone. Most of the other wouldn't like hearing that our way of life isnt the only one, they may think I'm saying that they're wrong-" the way he said it implied he did think that- " and they may chase me away. I may never see Striga again. Or Ignis."

Caelum new the moment that she looked into those pleading eyes, she could never tell anybody. She knew how shy and stressed he was all the time, if this made him happy, she couldn't take it away from him. [486]

“You can’t tell anyone!” Void snapped at her, pacing the length of the den. “No one can know!” Blight idly watched the distressed leader of her pride, flicking her tail periodically in perceived boredom. She could see the minute ticks as he was probably internally panicking.
“Why? Everyone’s lost someone in this day and age. They’d understand.” Which was true. You don’t live in the current state of their world without having lost someone close to you. The only ones who could say they haven’t are cubs and even that doesn’t last long.
“They can’t know. It would change everything” Void was clearly shaking by this point. Blight tilted her head in curiosity.
“Are you afraid they will think less of you? Think you are not worthy or strong enough to be our leader?” When Void flinched at her choice of words she knew she had guessed right. She sighed. Most of the others knew she didn't like to keep secrets. Secrets can get you or someone else killed. They knew if you wanted a secret kept you don’t tell Blight. Everyone in the pride is liable to know it by week’s end. But being able to walk in others dreams leads you to learn things. Things that probably shouldn’t be shared. It’s how they were in this mess in the first place. Void had been having a nightmare or something, and his mate had been worried. No one had been able to wake him. When he started muttering in an unknown language his mate had fetched her. Told her to try and wake him from inside his dream. That’s when she saw. Saw the secret he did not want anyone to know and was currently freaking out over. He’s entire previous pride dying in front of him. And he had been powerless to stop it. Killed in an instant by the very beasts they were only barely safe from in this canyon. She didn’t know why he wouldn’t share it, everyone’s lost someone. They’d understand. But she hated to see the normally super serious, confidant leader of the pride reduced to this panicky state he was currently in. So she would cave for now and keep his secret.
“Fine.” Void looked at her in surprise, most of his body still tense but slightly more relaxed then it was a moment ago. “But I seriously think you need to talk to someone, before this starts to affect your everyday life.” She paused briefly before uttering more softly, “If it doesn’t already.” She turned and started to head to the entrance of the den. “Find me if you absolutely must. I may not like keeping secrets. But I know how to.” With that she turned and left the den. Heading back to her everyday duties of being a Gatekeeper and warrior, not hearing the softly spoken and surprised tone of Void thanking her.
