Each one is a captain with their own crew of wolves. In the lore the wolves are roughly 5ft at the shoulder and can talk so they're like- *magic* wolves.
Since the local villagers refuse to fight, the king, Bly, recruits wolves as soldiers and guards.
We've got Captain Bastion, a loyal and good-natured wolf with sound morals who was one of the first to be recruited and local to the surrounding area, making him and his team very good with hunting and tracking, knowing the woods well.
He gets along well with the king but notices there is something amiss, while the king acts like the hero he is very secretive which bothers Bastion greatly, as he hates being kept in the dark, especially if it's from someone he deems a friend.
Captain Bifrost, she's calm, incredibly hard to read, and both a dependable negotiator and formidable foe. Thick furred and strong she's able to travel into the cold winter terrain surrounding the kingdom with little danger. She shows no fear when given dangerous tasks and commands respect from almost everyone around her. She doesn't talk much and gives the impression of a hardened warrior, yet the wolves she's in charge of often have a low, begrudging moral, as she's not much for taking breaks, encouraging speeches, or even socializing.
Bifrost's son, Captain Ward, is the exact opposite. He has the fewest wolves in his command, being very new to the job. He's energetic and eager to work and prove his worth, he's happy to take any job the other Captains find below them, such as hunting rabbits that get into the garden and hauling lumber back to the kingdom. While his work is incredibly valuable his father, Legion, doesn't it see it that way and generally avoids his estranged son. Ward often trips over himself in his hurry to do good, messing things up along the way, but will always see to it to right his mistakes.
Captain Legion is treated by the king as more of a strong ally than a simple captain, unknown to the others. You see, the king knows of a dark portal to another realm, one they can farm resources from like gold to trade to other kingdoms, and he needs someone to protect that secret, guard the iron farms and the villagers he's thrown in prison. No one can know Bly has a dark side, and Legion sees to that, although Bastion could argue Legion *is* Bly's dark side. Legion is shrewd and cunning, and doesn't once let the other captains see his secretive dealings. One day he'd like to rule the kingdom, but understands the villagers would not accept a wolf leader, and attempts to sway Bly on his choices, yet Bly is just as tough as he is, and doesn't often fall for his traps.
