I'm so sorry for your loss. They really do stick with you forever, you'll never forget.
And sometimes, that's okay.
Do something special in his memory. That's what I did. Lost my boy to blood cancer about fifteen years ago. It was heartbreaking... they couldn't really treat that in cats at the time. (Dunno if this has changed since.) Feline Leukemia took him. He was about ten at the time, still pretty active.

Currently training a new service dog, Paddy [2021, F, Husky x Pitbull].
One thing that humbles me deeply is to see that human genius has its limits while human stupidity does not.
