in my au, post-firestar's death, a sentiment in the clans had begun to spread that medicine cats were keeping cats from starclan and were possibly dark forest agents, especially after it was seen that cats could come down from starclan to fight for the clans and have more power than in life.
lightningstrike subscribed to this theory, but after being injured and cared for by moonflower, he did not want to return to life as a warrior even though he could. he felt it was his duty to make up for the misinformation and hurt he spread by becoming a medicine cat, as he realized the role's importance and began to appreciate it.
