Thylacoleo ("pouch lion") is an extinct genus of carnivorous marsupials that lived in Australia from the late Pliocene to the late Pleistocene (2 million to 46 thousand years ago). Some of these "marsupial lions" were the largest mammalian predators in Australia of that time, with Thylacoleo carnifex approaching the weight of a small lion. The estimated average weight for the species ranges from 101 to 130 kg

I saw someone post the thylacine, though I would love to see the thylacoleo over the thylacine since we don't have images of what the thylacoleo looks like. The skeletons shows the massive beast would have been some nightmares melted together in a mixing pot! I also thought it was cool considering it was a marsupial despite the build of the creature likely resembling that of a big cat crossed with a ferret!
These things I always thought were really cool. These massive creatures I feel like could be easily mistaken if they walked around today for large cats! What amazes me is their size and their tendencies to hunt and pounce from large trees a lot like leopards! I can only imagine the bite from this creature hurting a lot more than the canines of another big cat or canine. Assured, the death would be pretty quick! >.<
Their raptor-like thumbs are what really makes me raise a brow the most! I would have loved to see this creature jump from tree to tree in a zoo; it would surely put the leopard to shame, and well as the lion when it comes to the fear factor!
