Contest entry

Postby shadowbaby » Fri Jan 28, 2011 10:11 am

Here is my entry, I can change/ add things on it if you would like. Comments welcome.
Name: Raindance (feel free to change)
Gender: Female (feel free to change)
Breed: Mustang
Raindance has been an Indian pony for 3 years. She was caught as a foal when she wandered away from the safety of her herd. Her father was the Herd stallion and her mother was the lead mare so Raindance has a lot of pride. When she was caught she could not be ridden or even approached. The Indians had given up on her and were debating on what to do with her. One day, Raindance noticed a small Indian girl watching her through the bars of her corral. Raindance charged her but the girl didn't even flinch. "I know you aren't really mean" She said softly. “You are just scared, like I was.” The little girl was about eleven years old. Two years ago she had been captured from her tribe and brought to the one she was in now. Raindance stared after the girl as she was dragged away to by a stern looking woman. That night, after it had grown dark and everyone was asleep, Raindance heard the sound of soft footfalls heading her way. It was the young girl. “Shhhh, don’t make a noise.” She whispered. “If you will trust me we can both be free.” She slipped inside the corral. For some reason, Raindance felt she could trust this girl. Raindance allowed the girl to climb onto her back and take two handfuls of her mane. The young girl guided Raindance over to the gate opened it, and urged her through. Raindance galloped swiftly over the ground. The girl guided her along until Raindance saw a line of tepees in the distance. Raindance’s stride faltered, but the girl spoke softly to her, “Don’t worry, as soon as I am home, you will be free.” Raindance took courage and continued on until she was among the tepees. The girl gave a yell, “I’m home!” A woman rushed out of one of the tepees to the right of them, “Raven, is that you?” She called, tears rushing down her cheeks. “Momma!” Raven scrambled down of Raindance’s back and ran to the woman. She gave her mother a hug then turned back to Raindance, who, by now was getting scared. Several of the men tried to grab her but she reared out of their reach. “No! Don’t touch her!” Raven shouted. “I promised her her freedom if she helped me home. The men backed away and a few walked into a tepee and handed several item to Raven. Raven walked forward with them and set them down not far from Raindance’s feet. She then proceeded to tie some feathers into Raindance's mane and tail. Then Raven painted a circle of paint around her eye, and painted marks on her legs also. She then added the final touch, a red handprint on Raindance's withers. “Now you are an honored horse. Thank you for bringing me home.” Raven then led Raindance to the edge of the tepees and set her free. Raindance galloped off towards her home, free, at last.
