It just dawned on me that his old ref is from 2017 and isn't all that accurate anymore.
Anyway, this is Aaron. He's probably one of my favorite OCs. I'm really used to drawing him and at this point, he's kind of a comfort character.
Aaron never wanted to be king, he was carefree and irresponsible, having seen the great emotional toll ruling the kingdom took on his mother and father, so when they died he sold the kingdom for a chest of gold, not wanting to live a life of misery.
He had to go on the run, of course, the people weren't fond of his actions and he was forced to retreat into the desert. It was only then did he find his wealth was fool's gold.
Meanwhile, rebels overthrew the buyers of the kingdom and were split, some rebels wanting the king to come back and rule, while others wanted him dead for abandoning them, so their leader, Lotus, send a band of assassins after Aaron, hoping to bring him back and show the others how weak he really was.
One of them, Acacia, did actually find Aaron, but she found herself rather smitten with the brash and energetic runaway. He wanted nothing more than to get back to the kingdom and rule again, finding starving in the wilderness to be less appealing than a the life he gave up. Acacia believed that he learned his lesson, and through quite a few of his supporters, he sized the throne once more.
Almost no one was happy about this, and Lotus began a campaign to bring him to justice.
Meanwhile, the once foolish and fun-loving Aaron had changed. Now living in the lap of luxury he neglected all his important duties to throw lavish parties to entertain himself, and he wasn't about to give it up, not for anything. He would never let anyone trick him again, he grew possessive and harsh.
Acacia saw this, and although she was now the queen, felt uneasy about his new outlook.
This all boiled over when Lotus got so bold as to hold a public protest and making a speech at the front gates. Aaron's guards would do nothing about it, worried they'd start a riot if they captured her.
Having had enough, Aaron killed her. It was unexpected, in the middle of the kingdom in broad daylight. Everyone was too shocked to do anything, they had always viewed Lotus as untouchable.
And that's when Acacia decided she needed to overthrow him. He was no longer the naive and goofy hound she fell in love with, now a tyrant and cynical, entitled and unforgiving.
She poisoned him and banished him to wander the desert.
Oh yeah and there's a side story about an evil spirit lurking in the land and a bunch of other details that make the story sound less stupid but I'm tired & I've rambled long enough.
Also I made this 3D model of him last week and I'm still super excited about it!
