Ideas: just like the reverse markings on his face, his coat ages in reverse. He was born solid grey! But as he ages, small spots of color slowly form. So instead of being born brown with white spots and a black mane, he was born grey. And over the years, the color slowly starts to form. Perhaps by the time he is an elder, he will be solid brown! He feels like an odd ball and of course that is why he prefers to travel alone!
