Lion Name: Saar
Lion Gender: Agender
Pride: Motoheri Pride
Pride Status: Guard
How did they meet?:
For as long as they can remember, Piri (the grey parrot) has always been by Saar's side. Whenever their mother would take them to visit their grandfather, Piri was just as quick to greet them as the greying old lion. Young Saar adored the bird, and was struck by the strange, mischievous intelligence she had. Very quickly did the cub and parrot become friends, and even quicker did they become innocent partners in crime.

When Saar went to stay with their grandfather after the death of their mother, Piri switched their attention from Saar's grandfather to the melancholy adolescent. She insisted on going everywhere with Saar, and couldn't be shaken off for all the good in the world. As strange as it may sound to others, it was not Saar's equally-devastated grandfather who helped them overcome the death of their mother, but Piri. Like any childhood friend, the parrot knew how to cheer Saar up when they needed it most, and knew there were times when they simply needed to be there for the young lion.

There is a great, death-defying story to be told of how Piri and Saar's grandfather met and became friends, but for Saar, their own story with the cheeky grey bird is quite enough.

Lion Name: Malalai (Meaning; grieved, sad)
Lion Gender: Female
Pride: xxXxx
Pride Status: Visitor
How did they meet?:

All her life Malalai lived with her mother and their pride. It was just the two of them and they did what they could to be there for each other. Their pride was pretty small and frequently attacked by neighboring prides who fought them and stole their resources.
Malalai's father had been killed in such a fight, leaving her mother so grief stricken she was never quite the same. Then one day that bird came into their lives. Her mother took a liking to the creature who liked to follow them and pester them.

Malalai found the bird annoying, especially how he squawked to get attention. But because her mother liked the bird and seemed a little brighter with him around Malalai put up with him.

Her mother decided to call him Yuki, the name meaning 'brightness'. She took the bird with her everywhere, riding on her back, and his presence gave her the courage to venture out more like she had before her mate died. In truth Malalai might've almost been a little jealous of the bird, silly as it might've seem.

This went on for some time, but then one day there was an unexpected attack on the pride. Malalai frantically searched for her mother during the fight but was unable to escape the enemy long enough to find her. At one point an especially fierce blow to the side of her face made her black out, and when she woke all was still and quiet. Scrambling to her paws she saw what remained of her pride gathering quietly to one side. A glance was enough to tell her that her mother wasn't among them and she quickly began searching, her head pounding and the scratches against her cheek burning.

Finally she found her mother near the edge of the forest, laying on her side and clearly fatally injured. Yuki perched on her side, making an almost mournful chirping sound and shaking his head.

Malalai cried out and knelt down beside her mother's body, feeling as if her heart had been torn in two. She couldn't have said how long she stayed there, her nose pressed into her mother's cold fur as she tried to hold onto her scent. Eventually she raised her head as she felt something on her back. Yuki had landed there, still looking a little lost.

Her first instinct was to shoo him away, but as she looked at the bird she couldn't help thinking about her mother and how much she had loved having the bird around and wanted to care for him.

"Guess it's just you and me now," she murmured. And so it was from that day forth. Yuki rode on her back as Malalai traveled, trying to escape her grief. At first she only cared about the bird because he was all she had left of her mother in a sense, but in time her affection for him became more genuine and now she truly can't imagine being without him.

Lion Name: Kazi
Lion Gender: female
Pride: pride of the fallen grotto
Pride Status: warrior
How did they meet?:
Kazi was only a tiny cub at the time, her pride was one that was looked up to by neighbouring prides, from what she can recall, they were seen as mighty warriors who would help other prides if they needed it. At night, they would often tell stories of their heroic battles, as a cub all she wanted to do was fight fierce battles, just like her pride. Occasionally, she would get distracted by the fluttering of nearby trees and the squawking parrots and birds. She often wandered off but could never get a glimpse of the birds, that is if she wasn't carried back by a pride mate. Everyone was happy, she was happy.

That was until a horrible dark night came upon the valley, storm and winds started to pick up. Rain and thunder loudly shook the lands below, the rain pounded the earth like gaint drums. At first, everyone celebrated the rains as it was an end to the dry season, however the rain was the perfect chance for enemy lions to sneak upon the pride. With the prides gaurd down, the lions attacked, claws unsheathed and teeth bared. Kazi's mother was locked in combat with another lioness. Blood was everywhere and the rain dampened the sound of fighting lions. Kazi, alone and afraid, retreated back towards the den but as she got there, a lion was standing there on top of something. She stood in fear, and lightning lit the skies above, she could see that it was the leader, soaked in blood. The other lion smirked at her, proud of the kill, and loudly roared victoriously. The lions ceased fighting and looked, the prides fallen leader left them in shock. No one challenged the new comer or the enemy pride as grief struck their hearts.

Their leader was gone and in place, stood a powerful and deadly enemy. Kazi was angry, and pounced at the lion, doing no damage. The lion in retalitation, swept a paw at Kazi, scratching part of her ear and face. She cried out in pain. The 'leader' took some pity to the cub and banished her, no one else was allowed to leave.

She ran to the forest, fallen branches littered the ground. She saw a small grey parrot fledgling, with no parents in sight and a broken nest. She tried to befriend it, but it was afraid of her. An idea hit her, she searched the area for berries, after finding some on a bush, she gave them to the parrot. With time, he warmed up to her. Since both of them are orphans, they left in search of a new home together. On their journey they would sing together, she named him Zeus. She even taught Zeus some of her language. Zeus is mischievous and playful, and loves to play with Kazi's ears and whiskers. They grew up together, ever since that dreadful night, they have never left each other's side and will always have each other's back. [500/500]

Lion Name: Cawlan 'Gray' Oiseau 'Bird'

Pride Status: Scout
How did they meet?: (500 words or 1 art piece)
Art piece

Cawlan met his bird Oiseau when he saved her from the canyon during one of his adventures. He noticed the mother wasn't around and found her carcass nearby. Knowing the chick wouldn't survive on it's own he carefully scaled down the cliff and held the egg gently in his mouth as he scaled up the side. Unfortunately he wasn't quick enough to rescue the other egg in the nest and it has remained one of his biggest regrets.
On his own Cawlan miraculously managed to hatch Oiseau and keep her alive through adolescence. They have since been on many adventures together. They share a mutual friendship as they can help each other. Cawlan provides food and resources for Oiseau and Oiseau can provide a birds eye view and warns him of danger before he sees it. This makes them perfect for their scout role within the pride and they couldn't be any happier.

Lion Name: Kasuku
Lion Gender: Female
Pride: The Ushirikiano Pride
Pride Status: Lead Scout
How did they meet?:

Kasuku looked around the gorge helplessly. She had fallen in while practicing her pouncing, and was now trapped at the bottom, with seemingly no way out. She walked up and down the length of the canyon, and confirmed that there was no escape. She attempted to climb out, but from what she could see there weren't enough paw holds, and she kept slipping down. She stared in defeat at the cliff walls, and settled down to rest for the night.

Kasuku awoke early the next morning, stiff from sleeping on the rocks for so long. She stretched for a while before once again attempting to find a way out. There were several little nooks in the walls, but they were much too small for her to fit through. She was trapped, and there was no way for her to survive. She decided she might as well make the most of it, and started to create some games to play to pass the time. She stared up at the darkening sky before slowly drifting off to sleep.

When Kasuku woke up, she almost couldn't believe her eyes. A little grey parrot was standing right in front of her, watching her curiously. She got up slowly, so she didn't startle it. The parrot squawked, before flapping up and towards one of the walls. It looked back at her to see if she was following it, and promptly stopped flying once it realized she wasn't. Kasuku looked at the parrot, before walking after it. The parrot, who she had decided to name Mwongozo, led her to a small cave in the cliff wall that she had somehow missed the previous days.

Kasuku glanced at Mwongozo curiously, "Why are you helping me?" She asked. Mwongozo gave no response, other than a small nod towards her ribs, which were now becoming visible through her skin. "Thank you," She said gratefully. The two of them walked through the cave. It became clear to Kasuku that Mwongozo had been in the cave before, though she didn't under stand why. He was a bird, he didn't need to fly through a cave to get to the bottom of a gorge. They crawled through the tunnels for what seemed like days, before they finally reached the surface. She had to blink a couple times to adjust her eyes to the light.

"Thank you, friend," She said, smiling slightly at him, "Would you like to come with me?" She asked, nodding toward her camp. Mwongozo chirped happily, before landing on her back. The two of them headed off towards her pride.

Lion Name:Greysi
Lion Gender: Female
Pride: Mystic Isle
Pride Status: tbd
How did they meet?: Birds. Adorable, delicate, flighty. That's what many seem to think, observing song birds from a distance. They don't see the other types of birds.
The smart and the wicked.
Greysi met the first kind when she saw a lion playing with it, unlike other creatures who gave up or fought foolishly this bird tried different tactics. It tried distraction, playing dead, attack but the teen just laughed and batted it around again. When it looked at Greysi its beady eyes seemed nothing like the songbirds, they held intelligence and pleaded with Greysi for help. A chord struck in her heart, one she had thought was long since buried. She took the bird and fed it while it healed. She was shocked the first time the bird did its best approximation of a purr.

However, as soon as it could fly Greysi shunned the bird. She didn't even give it a name. She wouldn't get attached. Not again. Day after day she plodded through life. Ignoring again the pleas of others as best she could.

Eventually she couldn't stand it any longer. The songbirds mocked her with their cheery notes while down below her pride leader was a tyrant. He ruled with cruelty and as much as Greysi hardened her heart eventually it had to crack.

Without hesitation she strode up to him, sitting there on his throne of bones. He feasted, as he always did, with skinny servants bowing under the weight of the delicacies he demanded.

She challenged him, a plate clattered in the silence. He simply grinned and whistled. A great creature, on silent wings approached. It was no songbird though. Heading its masters call it flew straight at Greysi. She flinched, tried to bring her paws and claws up to fight. The thing they don't tell you about birds though is that they can be vicious. They target the eyes, the belly and when they get their beaks onto you they shake and tear like a cruel terrier.

Greysi could do nothing as the bird tore into her ear and scratched her face. The king's hawk was far more maneuverable than any land dweller could hope to be and not daring to open her eyes Greysi was at its mercy. Until there was another screech, a roar, a scuffle and Greysi dared to open her eyes. The grey parrot she had rescued weeks ago had returned and was diving the hawk. Knowing the parrot couldn't hold them off for long she pounced, and threw the hawk back at its fat master. His maw was wide in shock, beady eyes filled with anger.

They say dogs reflect their owners, perhaps the same could be said for birds. Either way, as Greysi and her companion fled the scene she couldn't help but grin. She had saved the bird, but in return, the bird had saved her too, literally and from her own cold heart. She finally gave the bird a name, Ramona, meaning wise saviour, it couldn't fit better.
