A good-natured and kind tom, Monostar was the cat that rebuilt PineClan after it was wiped out by a plague. When he was young, he and his brother attempted to kill an eagle that was threatening the Clan. His brother was killed in the incident, and Monostar was left with a permanent scar - both physically and mentally. He ran away to the city, where he lived with an old tom named Wolf that became the father figure Monostar needed. After returning to a decimated Clan, he worked tirelessly to regain the trust of his clanmates and quickly rose to become deputy, then leader.
Monostar became close with Adderstripe when he returned to the Clan and sees Adderstripe as his younger brother. The two love to tease each other relentlessly. On a trip to the city, Monostar met a she-cat named Tigerstorm that captured his heart. After convincing her to join PineClan, he was pleasantly surprised to find that she was a natural leader. He promoted her to deputy, and soon after the two became mates and had two kits, Finchshade and Bluesky.
