We had accidentally discovered this a few Thanksgivings ago-- it's not exactly a traditional dish. But... our fruit salad! We made it really early a few years ago and put it in the refrigerator to wait for dinner. Usually it's one the last things we make. It's a bunch of cut-up fruit: apples, green and red grapes, mandarin oranges, strawberries with a little bit of lemon juice so the apples didn't brown.

Leaving it in the fridge for a few hours was the best accident. When it was time for Thanksgiving dinner, the flavors had blended all together with the lemon and it was chilled through. Perfect. It disappeared faster than the sweet potatoes! Now, we make it in the morning and add some extra lemon juice and lemon zest so everything can marinate together nicely by dinner time.
